Is the GMAT test mandatory for all applicants?

For master applicants who will obtain their bachelor diploma from a research university outside the Netherlands, it is mandatory to show a sufficient GMAT test result before the application deadline or before the programme has reached maximum capacity (whichever occurs first).

Master applicants who will obtain their bachelor degree at a Dutch research University (WO) have to meet the GPA requirement of a 7.0 or higher (HBO 7.5). The GMAT score can't be used to compensate for an insufficient GPA.

What can I do if my language level does not meet the CEMS language exit requirements?

Basically, you have two options: either improve your CEMS- or third language and bring it up to the level that is required by CEMS, or learn a new language at beginner’s level. If you go for the second option, it means that you drop your original third language and replace it by the new language. If you consider doing this, choose a language that is challenging and can help you in your future career. For example, for a Western student it is more challenging and more rewarding to learn Eastern languages such as Mandarin or Japanese than another related Western language.

What do I need to upload for the verification of my GMAT test score?

GMAT test results can only be verified online. For this you need to give RSM permission to access your score.

  • Request for your score report to be sent to RSM when taking the GMAT test
  • You can also request for this to be done after having taken the test, but GMAT charges extra fees for this.
  • RSM also accepts the unofficial score report which you will receive right after taking the test, as long as you've given RSM permission to access your score. You can upload the unofficial score report as part of your application.

What is a GMAT exam?

The GMAT exam consists of 4 parts: quantitative, verbal, analytical writing assessment and integrated reasoning. Preparation materials such as books and software applications are available to help you study for the GMAT exam and can be purchased on-line or in major book stores. What is considered a research university in the Netherlands?

Research universities in the Netherlands (‘universiteiten’ in Dutch) are institutions of tertiary education with a focus towards scientific research in an academic setting. These institutions essentially train students in academic study and the application of knowledge and often do not include (mandatory) work experience. However, many of the programmes do also have a professional component and most graduates actually find work outside the research community.

In order to be eligible for admission to an undergraduate programme at a Dutch research university, like the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, you will need to have at least a high school diploma comparable to a Dutch diploma on VWO-level. Check out RSM’s website for any other admission requirements per programme.

Another type of education in the Netherlands is taught by the universities of applied sciences (in Dutch ‘hogescholen’). These institutions offer programmes that focus on the practical application of arts and sciences. Getting practical work experience through internships is an important part of the professional study programmes. For admission into an undergraduate programme at a university of applied sciences, your high school diploma needs to be similar to a Dutch diploma on HAVO level. An example of a university of applied sciences is Hogeschool Rotterdam.

What is rolling admission?

There is a rolling admissions process for most MSc programmes*.

This means that applicants can be submitted from 1 October onwards until the application deadline or until the programme has reached maximum capacity (whichever occurs first).

If your application is complete and you meet the admissions requirements you can get an offer of admission as soon as your application is reviewed.

Incomplete applications will be evaluated but an official offer is only given once the application is complete. For example if you submit your application before you have sufficient proof of English, your application will be evaluated and but you will only receive an offer if you submit your English proof on time; before the deadline or before the programme is full.

You will be notified of the outcome within four weeks following the receipt of your completed application (this could increase to 8 weeks close to the application deadlines). If you have not heard the results within this time, don't hesitate to contact us.

*There is no rolling admission process for the MSc International Management/CEMS programme. Applicants will be notified after the application deadlines about the next selection round.
