Inspiring alumni role models in RSM Outlook winter 2017

This winter’s issue of RSM Outlook magazine is inspired by alumni who act as role models to show the way. The corporate and alumni magazine published by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) explores priorities for the future, and how engaging with each other at all levels and in all kinds of ways can make positive change happen.

The articles introduce a range of people using their leadership skills to collaborate for social or environmental impact. For example, alumnus Sam van Tol developed Correctbook to fight illiteracy, alumna Deborah Post encourages biodiversity, and Antonia Albert ensures care for senior citizens.

Sustainable finance

Being a force for positive change is a theme running through RSM alumni’s activities in the magazine; reinforcing this is one of the motivations behind RSM research, which focuses on the UN’s 17 Sustainability Development Goals. Why and how sustainable finance will give companies and investors a clearer idea of the social and economic costs of their investments is explained by Prof. Dirk Schoenmaker, professor of banking and finance at RSM. And readers can learn how RSM’s work with NGO Médicins sans Frontières helps it deliver urgent medical supplies to where they are most needed.

In this issue’s executive interview, Corien Wortmann-Kool, chair of the board of ABP Pensioenfonds, reveals how the pension fund invests sustainably and how the rest of the finance world can make a similar positive impact.

Making societal changes

RSM Outlook interviewed this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients – Elizabeth Rogers, Zahir Dehnadi and Sofya Shuster – each with a strong desire to make a positive change to business and society. Another alumnus in the spotlight is MBA alumnus Dingani Banda, who holds a senior position at the Zambia Revenue Authority, after growing up in one of the country’s remote and financially disadvantaged rural areas and studying at RSM.

There’s also an article about alumni who offer inspiring proof of the strengths of the school and serve as agents for positive change by supporting Challenge Accepted, RSM and Erasmus University’s fundraising and alumni engagement campaign.

Thinking back, moving forward

A heart-warming article shows how the MBA alumni reunion refreshed old connections, revived old memories and created new ones. There’s also a round-up of this year’s RSM Leadership Summit, where forward-thinking business leaders, alumni and the brightest minds in academia took to the stage to discuss how business can be a force for positive change.

The new magazine also contains all the regulars: news from around the alumni network, movers and shakers, how alumni can engage or give back, and events for alumni in the spring of 2018.
