Supply Chain Management
Supply Chain Management
Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) focuses on the effective and efficient management of the products and services lifecycle. Successful SCM is imperative for any competitive business. Our research and teaching is targeted at transportation, sourcing strategies, facility logistics, optimisation, inter-firm relationship management, behavioural operations, and sustainability.
As RSM we facilitate the success of Netherlands and Rotterdam as home to the biggest sea port in Europe. This region is an international gateway to the massive markets of Western Europe. The Dutch logistics sector employs over 750,000 people and adds about €40 billion to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Distribution centres for American and Asian multinational companies are located here, and the Netherlands’ position has been strengthened by the trend for outsourcing and off-shoring production to the Far East.So logistics knowledge is increasingly important to sustain turnover in the Netherlands, and our research here aims to provide it.
Our dedicated SCM researchers have included elements of SCM in all of RSM’s bachelor programmes and several of its master programmes, as well as a dedicated and specialised MSc in Supply Chain Management.
Meaningful impact is integral to all our research endeavours. Offering research excellence in the dynamic fields of design, management, optimisation, co-ordination and planning, our Supply Chain Management faculty members are right at the very heart of Europe’s most important and advanced logistical hub – the Netherlands. Our long-standing excellence in academic study means we not only collaborate hand-in-hand with industry, but also play an integral part in setting national and international research agendas.
- Sustainability and supply chain optimisation (including service logistics)
Developing analytical approaches to improve the economic and environmental performance of supply chains. Some of this research is organised through ERIM’s Closed Loop Supply Chain centre.
