For admission to the Part-time PhD programme at RSM, you must
- be an executive with an MSc or MBA degree in a relevant discipline with a strong interest in research, willing to combine the Part-time PhD Programme with your full-time or part-time job
- have a strong interest in research and proven track record that includes excellent study results, or writing and publishing white papers, articles or other work
- have proof of proficiency in English, for example a TOEFL or IELTS test (minimum scores TOEFL 100; IELTS 7.5). Your language test results should not be more than two years old
In addition to these formal requirements, candidates will be selected according to excellence. Your CV, motivation, and your reference from your intended supervisor or supervisors will be taken into consideration.
The Admissions Committee may also ask you to take a GMAT test as part of the evaluation process.
RSM requires that candidates whose native language is not English have to submit scores of the TOEFL/IETLS test. If the language of instruction of your entire university education (bachelor and master programme) was English you may submit a TOEFL/IELTS waiver request. The final decision of the waiver request will be made by RSM. RSM requires a TOEFLE score of at least 100 on the internet based test and 600 on the paper based test. For IELTS there is a minimum score of 7.5. The language test results should not be older than 2 years.
The programme fee is € 12,000 per year for the first two years, and € 7,000 for each subsequent year.
These costs cover your admission to courses, tuition, coaching and supervision, your access to RSM’s research facilities, the cost of design, layout and printing for your PhD thesis, and the support of our communications team, for example to publicise your research findings to the corporate world and appropriate media.
From academic year 2021 on, RSM offers a yearly maximum of two scholarships for the part-time PhD program. These are meant to support excellent candidates who are not able to financially sustain the program participation from own resources. The scholarship covers the tuition costs.
Candidates who wish to apply for such a scholarship need to indicate this in their application for the program and credibly demonstrate that a scholarship is a necessary condition for their participation. This implies that other options for financial support, like a contribution from the employer or a research scholarship from different organizations have been investigated by the candidate prior to the application.
Under all candidates eligible for the scholarship, the selection will be made based on excellence.
The continuation of the scholarships will be decided on a yearly basis, based on progress made and ongoing need for financial support.
