What is a GMAT exam?

The General Management Admission Test (GMAT) and is used by business schools worldwide to assess skills deemed necessary for success at the graduate school level. The GMAT exam consists of 4 parts: quantitative, verbal, analytical writing assessment and integrated reasoning. RSM does not require you to complete the analytical writing assessment nor the integrated reasoning part as these parts do not contribute to your overall score.

For more information on exam content and information on how and where to register for the exam, please visit the official GMAT website: www.gmac.com. Preparation materials such as books and software applications are available to help you study for the GMAT exam and can be purchased on-line or in major book stores. RSM strongly advises you to prepare for the GMAT well in advance.

Please note that GMAT scores older than 24 months are no longer considered valid by RSM. The minimum required score is 600 (for Finance & Investments Advanced 650). Applications with GMAT scores under the minimum requirement will not be considered for admission.

Can I send in my application first and the results of my GMAT exam later?

Yes, you can submit your application first and complete your application package later with the results of your GMAT exam, however, please note that the RSM Admissions Office must receive the results of your GMAT exam (and all other applicable exams) no later than the application deadline for the programme you applied for or before the programme has reached maximum capacity (whichever occurs first). When filling in the on-line application form, indicate the date you plan to take the exam.

Keep in mind that without a complete application - including the results of all standardised tests, you will not be able to receive an offer of admission and no place in the programme will be reserved for you. The RSM Admissions Office can however, assess your academic background and provide you with feedback while waiting for the results of the GMAT.

I scored lower than 600 on my GMAT exam, can I still apply?

Applicants required to submit the results of a GMAT exam who scored lower than 600 will not be considered for admission. You can take the test again, but the new score must be submitted by the application deadline pertaining to your specific programme. RSM will only consider the highest score obtained. A previous lower score will not have a negative effect on your application.

For students applying to Finance & Investments, Business Information Management, or Master in Management, please note that your application must be complete when the programme becomes full. This can occur before the official programme deadline. It is therefore wise to submit your application with all required supporting documents - including the GMAT.

Can I apply without the GMAT score?

All applicants, with the exception of students with a bachelor degree from a research university (WO) issued by a University in the Netherlands with a GPA of 7.0 or higher must submit a GMAT score before the application deadline; January 31st for the IM/CEMS programme, March 31st for the Finance & Investment - Advanced programme and May 15th for all other programmes, provided that the programmes have not reached capacity before the deadline. Students with a bachelor degree from a Dutch research university who do not meet the GPA requirement must also submit a GMAT score. The GMAT exemption does not apply to the Master in Management or the Pre-master programmes.

The minimum required GMAT score is 600 (for Finance & Investments Advanced 650).

You may submit your application without a GMAT score, however RSM must have the score no later than the application deadline that applies to the master programme you have applied for. For programmes with a limited capacity (i.e. Finance & Investments and Master in Management) you need to have submitted the GMAT score before the application deadline or before the programme reaches capacity (whichever occurs first).

Does RSM offer GMAT fee waivers?

For the application season 2018 (starting in October 2017) RSM has obtained 10 GMAT fee waivers. These are given to eligible applicants on request and of first come first served basis. Candidates must provide the fee waiver code when they register for their GMAT appointment. In order to apply for the GMAT waiver complete the following steps:

  1. Write a brief motivation statement explaining why you think you should be granted a GMAT waiver.
  2. Upload the motivation statement to the online application form instead of a GMAT score.
  3. Complete and submit your application.
  4. RSM will evaluate your application. If you are eligible for admission, there are still waivers left and there is enough time to take the exam before the application deadline of the programme you are applying to, we will send you a waiver.
