Inflation is awake in the rich world, after a forty year hibernation.

There is growing concern about several factors. These include impacts on the cost of living, the inflationary outlook and how governments may tackle inflation. This awakening takes place in a slowing EuroZone economy and the unknown dimension of Quantitative Easing.

This ‘Lunch with Barry’ session will explore today’s inflationary and its implications.

 

About the speaker

Barry Standish is director and partner of the consulting company StratEcon. StratEcon is a specialised economics consultancy with economic modelling as the core competency. The company is based in Cape Town but has undertaken projects throughout Southern Africa and as far afield as the United Kingdom and Russia.

He also is a visiting Professor of Economics at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands.

He was formally a senior economist at the Graduate School of Business at UCT. During his tenure at the GSB, the MBA Economics courses were regularly placed in the top ten internationally in the Financial Times MBA surveys. He left the GSB in 2013 to take up his current position in the Netherlands.

In 2020, Barry discussed the economic implications of Covid-19 and continued his lectures on the world's current economic situation in a series of lunchtime webinars in summer 2021.
