Sustainable Retail Sales Research Team

We will explore sustainability purchasing criteria and present best practices for sales operations.

The Sustainable Retail Sales Research Team's project this year involves exploration of the current situation of sustainable purchasing and decision-making of the RSM Store. We approached the process with a systematic approach. We are interested in exploring and gaining an identifying what a sustainable business operation entails: from providing sustainable products, made from sustainable materials, to identifying best practices from supply chain management, (i.e. fair trade products). Simultaneously, we aim to acquire a better understanding of what a sustainable brand entails; and what it means to operate a business with a sustainable brand.

We have benefitted from several meetings with the RSM Store manager to map the current situation of sustainable purchasing. From that base of knowledge we will examine branding options for sustainable business. To complement these efforts we are currently conducting desk research; by looking at other business school stores to gather benchmarking information. This will allow us to capture and deliver practical and useful recommendations to RSM Store management for potential implementation. A report of our findings will be submitted to the store manager in May 2017. It has been a great learning process; working with a business at our own school.
