Monday 3rd September

Welcome to MSc Global Business & Sustainability

Time: 12:00-13:00

Welcome to the MSc programme by Dr Steve Kennedy (Academic Director).  This session will provide you with an overview of the department, the MSc programme and the introduction days.  Dr Guido Berens will provide information to get you started on considering your individual thesis.

Lecture 1: Introduction to Sustainability

Time: 13.00-16.40
Location: Theil CB-2

This first lecture will introduce you to the first core course, its learning goals and assignments.  The session will begin to discuss the central tenets of sustainability, its conditions and operating principles.
Please visit the on-line Canvas learning environment to access readings for this class and those needed for other lectures.

Introduction to STAR Study Club

Time: 16.40-16.45

A member of the 2017-18 STAR Study Club shall shortly introduce the opportunities of joining the society.

Optional informal drinks (at your own expense) offering you chance to get to know your fellow students better and reflect on your first day of the Masters Programme. 

Tuesday 4th September

Communication Structuring and Presentation

Time:     Group A 09.00-11.45   Location: Theil Building C1-3
Group B 13:00-15:45   Location: Theil Building C1-4

This interactive session with Eldridge Labinjo will introduce you to the basics of communicating a message and how to present ideas to a business audience.  
On the Monday you will be assigned Group A or B.  A list of members of each group will be made available on the Canvas content area.

BBQ @ Maria’s Cantina (Optional)

Welcome to the Department of Business-Society Management by Prof. Joep Cornelissen (Head of Department).  Together with the faculty of the Business-Society Management department, we will enjoy a BBQ dinner and drinks.  This is an opportunity to get to know your fellow students and faculty members (  Students are encouraged to use the time to engage with staff about their research and get an early impression on areas of interest for the thesis later in the academic year.  The BBQ will be fully vegetarian.

Student Contribution: We ask you to please make a voluntary contribution of €10 toward costs.  This may be made at the Department of Business-Society Management Secretariat, Mandeville Building T11-46 any time during the introduction week.  Cash only accepted.

STAR Study Club Evening (Optional)

Members of the 2017-18 STAR Study Club will take you to the ‘café de vrienden live’ ( to continue the party into the evening.

This is currently set as a free day.  An optional experiential learning experience may still be arranged.

Thursday 6th September

Lecture 2: Corporate Sustainability & Planetary Boundaries 1

This second session continues to consider the underlying conditions and operating principles of sustainability and introduces you to corporate sustainability.  You will learn of the responsibilities of firms and the evolution of corporate sustainability.

Joey Johannsen (Sustainability Co-ordinator at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University) will briefly introduce SustainableRSM and the opportunities for you to get involved.

Students are invited to join the HeartBeat Festival ( which runs from 16.30 until 22.00 – a celebration held on campus attended by students, employees, alumni and esteemed guests of Erasmus University, Rotterdam. 

Friday 7th September

Workshop: Interview Strategy

Time: 14.00-16.45
Location: Theil CT-1

Course leader Nicolas Constantinesco will lead you through the first session on the Personal Narrative, Communication and Career.  In this session you will learn how to develop an interview strategy that delivers and how to recount your experiences in an impactful way.

In this session you will also be introduced to the RSM Career Service.
