HBS Professor Michael Jensen to Present Seminar at Erasmus Academie

Rotterdam, 9 January 2009 --- Professor Dr. Michael Jensen of Harvard Business School will launch the European segment of his leadership seminar at Erasmus Academie from Monday, 8 June to Friday, 12 June 2009. The seminar, "Being a Leader and The Effective Exercise of Leadership: An Ontological Model," will be led by Dr. Jensen, an internationally renowned business scholar, along with his team of fellow experts: Werner Erhard, Steve Zaffron and Kari Granger.

This innovative leadership laboratory will take practical knowledge in the areas of leadership, integrity and innovation, and place them within the framework of an empirical academic discipline. The content of the seminar, and the learning/teaching method employed, are based on a new ontological model of leader and leadership. Rather than studying and emulating the characteristics, styles, and actions of noteworthy leaders or to communicate knowledge about leader and leadership, this new model of leadership has been specifically designed to provide participants with direct access to being a leader and to the effective exercise of leadership.

The goal of the seminar then is to provide participants with new insights, tools, and real-world understanding on how to effectively become and be a leader.

This seminar has been successfully taught since 2005 at the University of Rochester Simon School of Business to MBA, PhD, and Executive Development Program students, faculty, administrators, alumni and outside corporate executives. It is currently being taught to undergraduates and faculty at the United States Air Force Academy. In August 2008, the course was also taught to some 250 senior management consultants from 66 separate firms.

Seminar author and presenter, Dr. Jensen, earned an AB degree from Macalester College, followed by an MBA in Finance and a Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, and Accounting, both completed at the University of Chicago. Additionally, he has received numerous honorary degrees. Dr. Jensen held various professorships at the University of Rochester before joining Harvard Business School in 1985, where he currently holds the position of Jesse Isidor Straus Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus. A prolific author, he has published over 100 scientific papers, in addition to numerous articles, commentaries, and editorials published in the popular media on a wide range of economic, finance and business-related topics. He has further played significant, founding roles in the area of academic publication, having co-founded the Journal of Financial Economics in 1973, and having also co-founded and currently serving as Chairman of Social Science Electronic Publishing, Inc. (SSEP), a group devoted to the electronic publication of scientific working papers in the social sciences.

Dr. Jensen has received numerous awards in the domains of business and finance, the most recent of which was the 2007 Herbert Simon Award for "outstanding contributions to business research,” presented by Rajk Laszlo College, in Budapest, Hungary. He has served as consultant and board member to various corporations, foundations and US governmental agencies, and has lectured widely at seminars, meetings, conventions and educational institutions.

The seminar is an initiative of Erasmus Academie BV in association with the Erasmus School of Law of Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Rotterdam School of Management. For more information on Erasmus Academie (in Dutch), please visit www.eur.nl/erasmusacademie/algemeen/home/.
