Rotterdam/Amsterdam, January 2012 --- More than 75 alumni and current MBA students from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) were the first to hear Dean Steef van de Velde announce a new range of alumni activities when they joined him to toast the New Year on Wednesday 18 January. The event took place at the Twenty Third Bar on the 23rd floor of the Hotel Okura, with panoramic views over Amsterdam.
Dean Steef van de Velde formally welcomed guests with a short speech, in which he assured gathered alumni that during his deanship, alumni and corporate relations will have his dedicated attention.
He announced a new range of activities for alumni, including a more formalised Local Chapter structure and the introduction of industry-related alumni chapters such as supply chain management, private equity, and oil and gas.
Dean Van de Velde has previously mentioned the importance of RSM’s alumni network and acknowledged the help of alumni in the recruitment of new students and in developing the careers of graduates. The Dean also recognises the need for RSM research to remain a source of impactful information and education that addresses specific managerial challenges, and for RSM programmes to provide teaching faculty and qualifications that continue to be highly recognised by employers, which means focussing on building relationships with leaders in business, society and academia.
In return, Dean Van de Velde has promised the School will continue to offer its alumni an increasing range of services and events such as the RSM Alumni Day, the annual RSM Leadership Summit, the series of ‘Journeys with Erasmus’ debates, and other networking events offering high profile speakers.
The New Year Celebration is one of the regular social events on the RSM Alumni calendar. Forthcoming events in the Netherlands include the Rotterdam Marathon on Sunday 15 April, the Department of Strategic Management 25th anniversary Alumni Forum on Thursday, 26 April, Journeys with Erasmus in Amsterdam also on Thursday, 26 April, and the annual Alumni Day in Rotterdam on Friday, 25 May.
