Future of Water seminar welcomes back Alaska-Argentina Water cyclists
A seminar on the future of water will feature a stellar line-up of speakers and celebrate the return of the two cyclists of the ‘Cycle for Water’ expedition, both MSc alumni from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). Taking place at RSM on 14 May, the Cycle for Life seminar will focus on the future of water provision, as well as on how the global water supply is under threat.
The intense concentration of experience and expertise will make for a fascinating afternoon of insight, awareness and empowerment for action. Event host and moderator will be Gail Whiteman, Professor of Sustainability, Management and Climate Change at RSM and Director of the Research Centre of Corporate Eco-Transformation. The event will offer presentations from Jan van den Henrik, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at KPMG, Patrick de Nekker, founder of Earth Concepts (Earth Water) in Europe and Dennis Karpes, co-founder of Dance 4 Life and the Naga Foundation.
Not only will the seminar host expertise from academia, business and social enterprise it will also welcome Michael Roodenburg and Joost Notenboom back from their 20-month, 30,000km “Cycle for Water” expedition. In a symbolic imitation of the Earth’s natural water cycle, the two RSM alumni carried a bottle of wate
r from Alaska to Antarctica. Originally intending to go to Argentina the pair were lucky enough to join renowned adventurer Robert Swan on his trip to the Antarctic. The journey gained coverage from CNN and was part of the One Day on Earth project in 2010.They also presented their story during a TEDx event upon arrival at Antarctica - you can view their story here.
Michael and Joost will be sharing their story and asking questions whilst Prof Whiteman and fellow speakers present their take on the present water crisis and the solutions that exist to overcome it. The seminar is open to the public and made possible with the support of RSM Study Association STAR, RSM and KPMG.
The Future of Water seminar will take place at RSM on 14 May at 14.00 in the Senaatszaal, A-building. For more details and the full programme see the event page. For registration, please click here.
