The MBA department at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has adopted a way of ‘doing good’ when giving out small gift as tokens of appreciation to speakers and other distinguished guests. The School has purchased 125 donation vouchers for UNICEF’s DoeGoodie project, which makes donations to education and other causes. The donation vouchers will be handed out in lieu of conventional corporate gifts.

A UNICEF donation voucher means the recipient can then decide to make a difference to somebody else’s life. The recipient chooses which project to support from those listed on the DoeGoodie website.

The idea came from the MBA department’s Project Manager/Researcher, Roos de Wit-Goedhart, who gained approval from RSM Dean, Steef van de Velde. A donation of € 2,500 has been made to UNICEF by RSM, and will pay for a tent ‘schoolroom’, pencils and books. Dr Dianne Bevelander, Associate Dean, and Professor Jaap Spronk are both delighted that RSM’s corporate gifts now have added value.

“DoeGoodies are tokens of appreciation for us to hand out, but UNICEF makes sure that the chosen DoeGoodie gift – the real, physical gift – reaches children in Bolivia or Ethiopia,” said Dr Bevelander.

RSM recognises that giving back to education, and especially to those who are less fortunate, is one way to acknowledge the value of learning. “This project creates awareness and allows us to share our privileges,” added Dr Bevelander. “The future of our societies is going to be determined by today’s youth. Any contribution we can make can pay huge dividends for the future. Equally, and on a very personal level, it greatly enriches the life of the young person benefitting from this small donation. RSM is proud to offer DoeGoodies as one of their corporate gifts.”
