Professionals from the business community and students at Erasmus University Rotterdam will learn how to counter Africa’s negative stereotypes and celebrate successes of African business leaders during African Business Day which takes place on campus on Thursday 19 May. The event committee largely consists of business students from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) who want to change Africa through business.

The theme of African Business Day will be “Redefining Africa”. The event is organised by the Association of Students of African Heritage (ASAH). Speakers will provide attendees with their experiences and offer new perspectives on this fast-growing continent. They include innovative leaders such as Clinton Mutambo, CEO of Esaja.com; Colin Coleman, managing director and partner at Goldman Sachs Africa; Uzodinma Iweala, author of Beasts of No Nation; Nana Kwame Bediako, CEO of Wonda World and president at Petronia City Development; and Gbenga Ajayi, digital marketing advisor Sub-Saharan Africa at Google.

During African Business Day, there will be workshops organised by companies with a large influence in Africa, including McKinsey & Company, FMO and Shell. Smaller companies with a focus on sustainability such as Städler will also be present. In addition to the workshops there will be African entertainment and the possibility to enjoy the African cuisine. There will also be network sessions for students and representatives of companies including McKinsey, Shell, Google, and Morgan Stanley.

Professionals and students can register for the event via the African Business Day webpages.
