The CEMS exchange semester

The CEMS exchange semester

Students complete one semester at one of the CEMS partner schools. We try to ensure that external (non-RSM) applicants spend the fall semester at RSM, to allow these students to experience student life at RSM and in Rotterdam first, prior to going on exchange.

Students may indicate their preferences for the CEMS partner school(s) they would like to attend. Exchange slots per school, however, are limited. This implies that students applying for popular destinations may not be selected for their first choice, but instead for their second, third, or other preferred school. Applicants with higher grades, better assessment and interview results will have better chances for selection for their preferred destination.

In addition, the following guidelines will be followed:

  • No exchange is possible to the country of origin or the country of undergraduate studies/bachelor programme.
  • Students applying for ESADE and HEC Paris must submit Spanish or French respectively as their second foreign language.
  • For students applying for an exchange spot at the University of St.Gallen, University of Cologne or WU in Vienna, German-speaking ability at the B1 level is an asset. The same holds for students applying for the Louvain School of Management (who benefit from having French proficiency at least at B1 level).
  • Students who spend a term abroad at University of Sydney will have to present a valid IELTS exam when applying for a visa (NB: TOEFL or CAE will NOT be accepted).
  • All International Management students are encouraged to follow a course in the local language during their semester abroad, for extra international exposure.

Information on the CEMS partner schools can be found on www.cems.org.
