The topic of whether the university should focus on accessibility or on top research and top students was discussed during a debate evening organised by the Erasmus University College (EUC) and the Erasmus Institute for Public Knowledge (EIPK). RSM vice dean Dirk van Dierendonck discussed the importance of lifelong learning, and commented: "Until recently, people in their late fifties simply disappeared from the labour market. That is no longer the case. It offers opportunities. We also try to serve that market at RSM, for example with MBA programmes."
