Profile

Emanuel Ubert is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management in the Department of Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

His research examines (i) how organizations adapt to unexpected disruptions and uncertain futures and (ii) when such disruptions and uncertainties foster the emergence of organizational or strategic innovations. Normatively, it is motivated by the question of when and how climate change disruptions can trigger more sustainable and equitable societal transformations. Theoretically, his research engages with the Carnegie School, evolutionary theory, design thinking, and political economy. Empirically, it leverages large panel datasets as well a in-depth qualitative/ abductive methods. 

Emanuel holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In a previous life, he worked as management consultant restructuring near-bankrupt companies, had a front-row seat to the 2007/08 financial crisis as a leveraged finance banker, and co-founded a cafe and a film production company.
