Institute of Management Accountants accreditation for RSM
The MSc Accounting & Financial Management programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has been accredited by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) – an association of controllers, management accountants and financial professionals. The accreditation is within the framework of the IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Programme and recognises the high quality of RSM’s master programme that simultaneously prepares students for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams and a career as a management accountant.
The accreditation follows a longer period of collaboration in research and education between RSM and IMA. Students can prepare for two CMA exams – testing their capacities in four core areas – as part of their RSM master programme.
This certificate of excellence also brings additional benefits for students: reduced examination fees, access to supplemental study materials, and the opportunity to participate in IMA Global Board activities.
Soft skills for the boardroom
“We’re proud of our collaboration with the Institute of Management Accountants. Thanks to this collaboration, students receive both an MSc and a CMA by the time they complete their university studies. This gives them a head start in the labour market,” says Dr Stephan Kramer, Associate Professor of Management Accounting and Control at RSM. “And just like RSM, the IMA is closely involved in academic development in this field of studies, such as in decision support. There is a clear need for the development of soft skills – as a management accountant, how do you communicate the essence of a matter during a boardroom meeting? This accreditation means we can intensify our collaborative efforts even more.”
High-scoring exam candidates
Alain Mulder, IMA’s Regional Director for Europe, says: “RSM students are among the highest-scoring exam candidates internationally due to the fact that they are so well-prepared. Since CMA certification is recognised by multinationals ranging from China to the United States, young management accountants already have a passport to the world when they start their career. We value RSM’s efforts and we are very pleased to welcome them to our global network.”
