Bachelor graduation proceeds support research on children’s brain
Proceeds from the receptions at the graduation ceremonies of the two bachelor programmes at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) went to the charity Stichting Vrienden van het Sophia (Friends of Sophia Foundation). The more than 900 graduates and their families celebrated the completion of the three-year bachelor programmes at the New Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam in November 2019.
In total, € 10,956 was raised from the sales of drinks during the graduations. The funds are for the new Sophia kinderhersencentrum (children's brain lab), which is part of the Erasmus MC Sophia Children's Hospital. The brain centre will open in March 2020.
“This is just great. We had an amazing graduation with our friends and family. It’s such a nice idea to know that these celebrations contribute to a valuable cause towards research to save children’s lives, and also to their quality of living. It really adds to the memory: we completed our bachelor and helped others. It’s a win-win!”, says Jordy Martodipoetro, who graduated from the BSc Bedrijfskunde programme in November.
The cheque was handed to Marie-Lisa van Veelen, neurosurgeon at Erasmus MC’s Sophia Children’s Hospital, for the foundation’s Lichtjesactie 2019 by RSM’s Tessa van der Veer, Stella Li, Mindy Yuen and Isabelle Nevels.
