As the current measures against the Covid-19 pandemic allow us to plan an entirely in-person graduation, we are planning to offer your MSc graduation ceremony as a live event in Rotterdam.
All graduates are invited to come to Rotterdam to join us on location.
At this point in time we do not know the exact schedule of the day yet so we would like to ask you to keep this timeslot blocked in your calendar. Once known we will publish this on this website and this should be no later than week 35. There will be multiple sessions throughout the day.
As the current measures against the Covid-19 pandemic allow us to plan an entirely in-person graduation, we are planning to offer your MSc graduation ceremony as a live event in Rotterdam. Thus, online participation will not be possible, but all graduates are invited to come to Rotterdam to join us on location. For those who cannot participate on location, you can watch the ceremony online via a livestream.
More information on the schedule will follow between 29 August and 3 September (week 35). For now, we ask that you keep your agenda free from 09:00–21:00.
Prior to 2014, there was no Master graduation ceremony: instead, candidates defended their thesis in an exam room. As the programme changed, these defences started to take place in an office without an audience, and so many students asked if RSM could organise a ceremony.
The cost of this ceremony has never been accounted for in the programme budget, and so rather than put further pressure on the cost of delivering the studies, it was decided to share some of the costs of the ceremony with graduates. In general, the school covers the venue hire, staff and other costs, while students must pay for their ceremonial attire.
RSM does not profit from the ceremony in any way – instead, costs are subsidised as much as possible to allow the ceremony to happen without affecting teaching.
In 2020, graduates were not charged because the in-person ceremony was cancelled, and so no ceremonial attire was required. In 2019 and earlier, graduates were asked to make a contribution to the costs in the form of a gown hire or purchase price.
Everybody graduated after 9 October 2021 is invited to participate in this years MSc graduation ceremony. If you have graduated between 15 September 2021 and 8 October 2021 please contact us at email@example.com.
If you will be graduating from two master programmes you may receive both degrees simultaneously at the ceremony, as all master degrees will be awarded then.
However, you will need to indicate via the registration form with which one master programme you would like to participate in the ceremony, that is, with which programme you will be grouped and seated. When you are called to the stage, however, you will receive both degrees.
By organising more ceremonies we will have enough space to safely organise a graduation ceremony in times of COVID-19.
You need to have graduated to attend the graduation ceremony. As an outgoing exchange student, you will officially not have graduated, since you will take on extra course load of at least 20 ECTS, for which we will extend your exam programme. In this case, you may attend next year’s graduation ceremony once you have completed your 60 EC.
However, those students who have completed all 60 EC of their exam programme before they go on exchange, in other words those of you who do NOT leave one elective open and would have graduated if they would not go on exchange, are allowed to attend the graduation ceremony, together with the students of your cohort.
You can also do an internship after graduation. You can fill out one of the postponement of active degree forms, if you would like to stay registered after your graduation. In this case you may attend the graduation ceremony, together with the students of your cohort.
Please keep in mind the following:
For those of you who are going on exchange, leaving one elective of 6 EC open, it will not be possible to attend the graduation ceremony as a ‘graduate’. You are more than welcome to attend the graduation as a guest and pick up your diploma in next year's ceremony. Ticket sale takes place at a later stage.
Also those students who have completed all 60 EC of their exam programme and are not planning to attend the ceremony this year, are welcome to attend the graduation ceremony in September/October next year.
Right now, we believe it will be possible within the current regulations to offer an in-person graduation; with both graduates and guests live in De Doelen, and with the option for guests who can't come to Rotterdam to watch the ceremony online via a livestream.
While we hope that there will be no need to follow any Covid-19 regulations, we have designed the event around different possibilities. Each cohort's graduation takes place in a separate room to reduce the number of people sharing the same space. If social distancing regulations are brought back into force, we may have to review whether your guests are allowed to join the graduation in person with you.
Yes! We are planning a live ceremony in Rotterdam. We invite all graduates able to travel to Rotterdam to join us on location. For graduates and guests who cannot join us in person, the ceremony can be viewed via a live stream.
No. We are planning to offer your graduation ceremony as a live event in Rotterdam. Thus, online participation will not be possible.
After registration closes, we will be able to assess our attendance and put together a more comprehensive schedule of the day. Please check your email and the website for updates.
For those that have never attended a graduation ceremony, it is a festive celebration of the graduates’ achievements and completion of their programme degree. Faculty/staff and student speeches make up the majority of the programme. Diplomas will be received on stage and there will be an introduction into the alumni network. Socializing and celebratory drinks with guests and fellow graduates will take place following the ceremony.
We order food that will accommodate the majority of students which includes a vegetarian option. If you have any specific concerns, please contact the Graduation Team directly.

A typical graduation ceremony hosts thousands of graduates and guests and relies on careful organization to ensure that everyone has a seat and a place in the running order. This is a significant logistical challenge, and it means that late registration is unfortunately NOT possible under any circumstances. Please make sure you register as soon as you see the first invitation.
There can be no exceptions to this rule. It is not possible to register late even if you missed the registration due to extenuating circumstances, personal difficulties, illness, family emergencies, or any other reason. We are very sorry if this is disappointing, but as a result we try to communicate about your graduation as early as possible – before you even finish your studies – to ensure that you can book your attendance in good time.
If you have made a mistake when filling in your information for the graduation ceremony, you can contact us at the email below with the correct information up to six weeks before the ceremony. The Graduation Team will adjust it for you.
Yes! We strive to accommodate all of our students’ and guests’ needs. Please share your special requirements on the registration form at the time of registration. If you missed this opportunity to reach out, please email us at the email address below.
All tickets with QR code will be sent by email through Easydus the week of your graduation. Guest tickets will also be sent at this time with separate QR codes. You can download and directly forward individual tickets to your guests prior to the ceremony date. Please be sure to check your spam folder if you do not receive your tickets, and contact the Graduation Team at the email below to have them resent.
At this point in time, we foresee that you will be able to bring guests to the ceremony. Before the registration opens, we will inform you about the number of guests you will be able to bring.
No. Only graduates attending the face-to-face graduation ceremony can order guest tickets. If your friend is not attending, they cannot order guest tickets.
Depending on demand and availability, we might be able to offer additional guest tickets. This will be decided after the registration has closed. Those who registered will be informed about a possible extra ticket order by email. Please be aware that an extra ticket sale is not guaranteed.
While graduation is a celebratory family event, we do not consider it particularly child-friendly due to the ceremonies requiring guests to remain seated for up to two hours at a time in some cases. That being said, children are still welcome to attend. If children do come, those age 2 and under do not need their own ticket for the ceremony as they are expected to sit on an adult’s lap. All children age 3 and over will need their own guest ticket. Children under the age of 18 should not be left unaccompanied at any point whilst in the venue.
Yes! We will always try our hardest to accommodate guests with any special requirements, but it is always helpful if we can make arrangements in advance.
All of our graduation venues are wheelchair accessible. If your guest requires an aisle seat or to be near a doorway for medical reasons, this can also be arranged.
Please indicate your requirements when you register, or otherwise contact us at the email address below at least two weeks before the ceremony so that we can make the best possible arrangements.
You can read more about the accessibility of our graduation venues here:
We can provide VISA letters to students and their families who wish to attend the ceremony. We encourage you to first check the IND’s link to short-stay visa and requirements depending on the country of origin https://ind.nl/en/short-stay/short-stay-holiday-or-business-visa.
This link is being provided for informational purposes only. RSM does not directly arrange any visas for the graduation. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at the email below for further information.
If you still have a question about your graduation ceremony, we are happy to help.
Just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your question.
Please note, that as we get closer to the ceremony we are asked a lot of questions. We recommend that you send your email as soon as possible in order for us to answer it in good time before the ceremony.
