“Successful entrepreneurship requires more than just the passion to solve a social problem,” says Professor Lucas Meijs, professor of strategic philanthropy and volunteering, who is one of the teachers on the programme.” Creating social value is becoming increasingly important for (future) managers. Companies must increasingly think about their role in society. And charities, non-profit organisations and social organisations want and need to become more professional.”
Collaborate and learn
Participants of the course will learn about this management specialisation of corporate social responsibility, and entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial initiatives. They will develop the knowledge needed to be successful as a social entrepreneur, to work together with companies in social enterprises and to reflect on what business can learn from social entrepreneurship.
Learning goals of this masterclasses include being able to deal with the most important challenges of managing a social enterprise, understanding how social entrepreneurs and companies can collaborate and learn from each other, and being able to apply the basic principles of specific focus areas of social entrepreneurs at work, for example impact creation, good governance, volunteer management and fundraising.
A business perspective
“Companies are looking to connect to society, and non-profit organisations and social entrepreneurs want to manage their organisations well. The social entrepreneurship course brings this together to look at this management specialisation from an organisational perspective,” says Dr Lonneke Roza, who also teaches in the programme. Dr Roza is an assistant professor at RSM, and specialises in non-commercial strategies to create positive social change.
As part of the programme, participants will create an entrepreneurial plan and receive feedback on it from Prof. Lucas Meijs and Dr Lonneke Roza.
The Dutch course Sociaal Ondernemen will start in January 2020. The series of masterclasses will take place on eight evenings between January and April. People who work at NGOs or social organisations receive a discount on the programme.
