The English language requirement for international students who apply for an English language study programme is a certificate of a language test with a minimum score as referred to in the Language Tests Appendix (column: “For admission to education at Bachelor’s and Master’s level or premaster’s level).

Exemptions from the compulsory English language test:

A minimum of 2 years of previous education completed in one of the following native speaking countries and nationality from one of these countries: 

  • Australia 

  • Canada except Quebec* 

  • Ireland 

  • New Zealand 

  • UK 

  • USA 

*Exceptions made for students who have studied for one year at an English-language university in Quebec, such as Concordia University, McGill University, or Bishop's University, or who have completed the English-stream CEGEP, completing the Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) in English. 

Evidence:  

  • Passport 

  • School / University diploma 

The official language of instruction was English and the diploma was obtained in one of the following countries: USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa or within the EU/EEA including Switzerland.  

 

International diplomas accepted:  

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma if the official language of instruction was English 

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) English certificate: English A Higher Level certificate with a minimum grade of 6 or English A Standard Level Certificate with minimum grade of 7. 

  • European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma with a minimum grade of 7.0 for English (language 1) 

  • GCSE / A-Level English with a minimum grade of C 

  • Singapore: Completed prior education in Singapore (with O-level English First Language (Examining authority Cambridge, not Singapore) or A-level English Language/ Literature (Examining authority Cambridge, not Singapore), or at least 2 years of BA education in Singapore. 

  • South Africa: National Senior Certificate (NSC) with English Home Language 

You can only use your bachelor education as proof of English proficiency if it meets one of the following requirements:  

  • Your programme was taught completely in English in one of the following countries: USA, UK,  Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore or within the EU/EEA including Switzerland. 

  • If you want to use your master degree as proof, in addition to the requirement above, you must have completed the degree / obtained at least 60 EC at the time of applying to RSM. 

  • If the bachelor programme was taught in 2 languages within the EU/EEA including Switzerland (for example Dutch and English) you must show proof that at least 120 EC were taught in English. This equals 2 full study years if the bachelor is a 3 year programme. 

  

If it is not mentioned on the diploma, or on the website of the university that the programme is taught in English, an official statement provided by the university is required.
