Displacement of paid work with unpaid volunteers and so cheap labor, is a hot topic. Researchers Lucas Meijs, Kirsten Parren and French-Joseph Simons do not give a definitive answer, but an understanding of the issue of displacement. The report says: "The large numbers of volunteers active in our society and the associated economic value they create, have the potential disadvantage that they thereby displace paid work."
