Packing in the fun
The volunteers divided themselves up along an assembly line of packing boxes, party materials, and wrapping paper, and packed each box with care and in a positive atmosphere.
Each birthday box contains gifts (like a book, toy, or puzzle), decorations, candy (to hand out to the child’s friends and others), ingredients to bake a birthday cake, and colourful goodies that help to make a birthday party complete.
When the last box was packaged, the tally came to 466 boxes, which exceeded the group’s target of 450! Afterwards, the RSM volunteers celebrated their hard work with a snack and a drink together with the other volunteers from Jarige Job. All in all, a great (and fun) day’s work!
About Jarige Job
Founded in 2010 by EUR alumnus Huib Lloyd (MSc 2007) and his wife Barbara, Stichting Jarige Job annually helps more than 150,000 children in the Netherlands whose families don't have the means to celebrate their birthdays.
Typically, these children neither receive gifts nor do they get a chance to blow out candles on a birthday cake. Often, these children call in sick to school on their birthdays out of shame, because their families can't afford to treat their classmates to birthday treats. This can lead to children feeling left out and lonely.
For the last 15 years, Jarige Job has been working to give children in need the birthday celebration that they deserve. On their 15-year anniversary, Jarige Job held a huge celebration, which included an XXL Packing Party, where they packed over 15,000 birthday boxes.
