Huesca, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is a regular destination for RSM students. Traditionally, groups of 50 RSM students head there every five years because it’s the place that gave its name to a mixed male-female student fraternity at the university and the Huesca cycle expedition is a great bonding event for sporting activities. Most students taking part this year had never cycled more than 40 km in a single day – this month’s expedition will see them cycling 120 km every day for three weeks.
Donation target
This year, the money the cyclists will raise will go to the Daniel den Hoed Foundation, which supports cancer research at the Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute; this institute bases research and treatment on customised treatments based on the latest scientific findings. The cyclists have already reached their target of €10,000 in sponsor pledges, and they hope to raise the total even higher and are therefore seeking more donations. They’ll be keeping their supporters updated with regular blog posts and on their Facebook page.
RSM supported the students in their efforts to raise money for charity by offering them free use of the Erasmus Sports facilities as they trained. The students also used the ‘VLS University Tour’ in May – in which hundreds of cyclists pedalled between Erasmus, Leiden and Delft university campuses – as part of their training. We wish them success!
