Dr Emilio Marti, Prof. Tom Lawrence, Dr Chris Steele accept AOM OMT Best Published Paper Award

Dr Emilo Marti, associate professor in the department of Business–Society Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), and his co-authors have been honoured at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM) in Copenhagen with the 2024 Best Published Paper Award of the Organisation and Management Theory (OMT) division for their paper, Constructing Envelopes: How Institutional Custodians Can Tame Disruptive Algorithms.

The research of Dr Marti, Prof. Thomas B. Lawrence (Oxford University) and Dr Christopher Steele (University of Alberta) advances our understanding of how organisations navigate the social dynamics of algorithmic disruption – insights increasingly relevant as AI transforms industries worldwide. The findings also contribute to the new theory on institutional custodianship, demonstrating how institutions can construct protective boundaries or ‘envelopes’ around disruptive algorithms and various threats to limit their impact.

Dr Marti: “The OMT Best Published Paper Award is important for RSM because many amazing papers have been published in 2024 that build on organisation and management theory (OMT). OMT is the third-largest division within the Academy of Management, so being recognised by a high-profile jury as having co-written the best OMT paper published in 2024 is therefore a huge honour.”

RSM heartily congratulates Dr Marti, Prof. Lawrence and Dr Steele on the success of their paper. For more information about this award-winning paper, please read the abstract.
