In earlier communication we informed you that the current version of Google Universal Analytics (UA) will be replaced by Google Analytics 4 (GA4). After having worked on the implementation and configuration for the RSM website, GA4 preparations are finished and now up and running.

In a nutshell, this is what you can do with GA4:

  • Collect data about your visitors like:
    • where they come from
    • which devices they use
    • which links they click
  • Create reports
  • Compare periods and observe seasonality
  • Ensure that, based on data, you know that your visitors find the information and do the actions you intend them to do

UA to GA4

Currently, we’re running both Google Analytics 4 and Google Universal Analytics. This gives us the opportunity to collect statistics simultaneously and compare data. In July, UA stops collecting data. At that point, we also stop including the tracking code on the RSM website. Then it’s only possible to get insights via GA4.

NOTE: all data gathered in the past will remain accessible until further notice. At some point, we expect that Google will stop storing historical UA data, but there have been no short-term indications of that up to now.

The essence of both UA and GA4 remains gathering insights on website behaviour. The way those insights are measured, however, is different:

  • UA hit types include page hits and event hits.
  • GA4 data is event-based; any interaction can be captured as an event.
    • Reports and data are also different, and resulting outcomes may also be interpreted differently.

Get trained in GA4

Come familiarise yourself with GA4 and learn how to retrieve basic statistics that help you to understand how your website visitors interact with your pages. You can choose from two online training sessions on Thursday, 30 March:

Training 1. Basic, 10:30-12:00 – learn how to work in GA4, even with limited knowledge of Analytics.

Training 2. Advanced, 14:00-15:30 – learn to extract more complex data and insights and to use GA4 on a regular basis.

NOTE: you gain access to GA4 after successfully completing one of the abovementioned trainings.

Optional dashboards

If you like, we can create custom data dashboards for you. We sit down with you to determine which key information the dashboards should focus on based on your needs. The nice thing is that dashboards can be accessed without prior knowledge of Google Analytics.

Sign up for a training

Please go to Qualtrics and sign up for the training that matches your needs. Even if you don’t need support and/or access to GA4, we’d like to hear your feedback.

Can’t make it on 30 March? Please reach out to Wilbert Gantvoort: gantvoort@rsm.nl to discuss alternative solutions, or to ask further questions about switching to GA4.
