With over 30 years of experience as a consultant, professor, initiator, and director, Karen Maas has dedicated her career to accelerating the transition toward a sustainable and inclusive economy. She founded Impact Centre Erasmus to work with a broad range of institutions to strengthen their capacity for impact-driven strategy, measurement, and management - helping translate societal ambitions into meaningful, measurable outcomes.
As Professor of Accounting and Sustainability at the Open Universiteit for over 7 years, her research explores the intersection of economics, sustainability, and the evolving role of business in society. She aims to bridge academic insight and practical change, contributing to the development of impact strategies, sustainable finance, and new economic thinking.
Through her recent appointment as Kroonlid for the Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER), academic publications, books, board positions, and media contributions, she helps shape a forward-looking economy grounded in transparency, innovation, and long-term value -aligned with the principles of progress, education, and social responsibility.
