Your sustainability programme curriculum

You’ll start with a two-hour online orientation, followed by a two-day in-person deep dive into sustainability for business impact. This intensive core course covers key concepts, including sustainability science, governance, responsible leadership and the design of risk-resilient business models. 

Next, tailor your development through one to three targeted specialisations, focusing on circular and generative business, decarbonisation, or social impact, depending on your interests and goals.

The programme concludes with a practical sustainability project, guided by expert group coaching. You’ll translate your learning into practice, applying insights directly to your professional context to begin making a measurable difference from day one.

You will gain the foundational knowledge on the trends that are currently shaping the business sustainability, with a look at the complex geopolitical landscape, the impact of digitalisation and AI, and emerging business models. 

Step into the future of business with this intensive 2-day programme. Sustainability for Business Impact is designed to integrate sustainability into core professional roles or shaping business strategy through a sustainability lens. This course blends interactive lectures, real-world case studies, expert insights, and peer collaboration to accelerate your learning and ensure long-term impact, while expanding your network of changemakers. 

Select one specialisation course of your choice, to dive deeper in definite topics tailored to your own business needs and professional journey. You can follow up to three specialisation courses, but will develop your own final project based on one topic:

At this stage, you will receive online group coaching sessions, to further refine and complete your own practical project. 

This will be your opportunity to solidify your learnings and apply hand-on the methods and tools acquired throughout the programme, while further connecting with fellow participants and RSM sustainability experts. The coaching sessions culminate in a showcase conference when you will share, alongside your peers, the outcomes and insights gained throughout the course and your project.

Your expert sustainability faculty

Dr Steve Kennedy

Steve Kennedy is Associate Professor of Business Sustainability at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. His research approaches how systems and resilience thinking can help organizations to tackle grand societal challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. Dr Kennedy has experience collaborating with partners on sustainability in a wide variety of sectors including finance, construction, agriculture, electronics, and chemicals. His research has featured in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Journal of Management Studies, Strategic Organization, Long Range Planning, Business & Society, Journal of Cleaner Production and Business Strategy & the Environment. 

Dr Piero Morseletto

Piero Morseletto holds a PhD in Environmental Policy and Analysis from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and an MPhil in Environmental Policy from the University of Cambridge. He researches the Circular Economy focusing on theoretical aspects and applied solutions in the economy and society. He also conducts research on environmental governance and investigates remedies to major environmental problems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss and chemical pollution. His published articles have appeared in various academic journals, such as ‘Resources, Conservation and Recycling' and the ‘Journal of Industrial Ecology’. He previously worked at the UNESCO Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences and PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

 

Dr Rouven Kanitz

Rouven Kanitz is an assistant professor of organisational change at RSM. His research focuses on helping organisations to navigate change processes in more effective and sustainable ways, focusing on the human side of change with specific interventions, measuring responses, and opportunities from digital technology. Before entering academia, Rouven worked in medical technology industry and as a consultant on change projects. His work has been published in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Rouven has a PhD in Management from Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München.

Dr Nathan de Arriba-Sellier

Nathan de Arriba-Sellier is the Director of the Erasmus Platform for Sustainable Value Creation at Rotterdam School of Management, where he leads research on sustainable finance policy and regulation. Prior to his current position, Nathan was the Research Director of the Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance, a Postdoctoral Associate at the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy, and a Lecturer at Yale University. In this capacity, he organised the 6th Annual Conference of the Global Research Alliance on Sustainable Finance and Investment (GRASFI) and received the 2023 Yale Sustainability Award for Faculty. Nathan's expertise in sustainable finance is recognised internationally, and covers a wide array of legal issues related to finance and the environment, particularly corporate law, financial regulation, and monetary policy.

Part of this programme takes place in Bayle building on the Woudestein Campus of Erasmus University Rotterdam, just 15 minutes by public transport from Rotterdam city centre. Our modern and lively campus has innovative study facilities, sustainable design, and calming green spaces.

The online components of this course can be followed anywhere at your convenience, you will only need a screen and a reliable internet connection.

Class sizes are usually between 12 to 24 people, but it does depend on the programme. We aim for a balance between allowing capacity to guarantee individual attention, and achieving a good group dynamic and networking opportunities.

Yes. Alumni from RSM and Erasmus University Rotterdam receive a 15% discount.  

RSM alumni are students who have completed either a bachelor of science, master of science, PhD or one executive education programme of more than 40 credit hours. Additionally, companies which sponsor several participants may also be offered a special price. 

Participants of open programmes of less than 40 credit hours will not receive a discount. 

Programme fees include tuition, programme materials, access to the RSM study facilities and dynamic learning environment. This also includes lunch and refreshments throughout the programme.  

Hotel accommodation is not included, so please make individual arrangements for your stay in Rotterdam.
