Erasmus University, University of Twente, research agency PPRC and international research network IRSPP conducted a study on what is needed for the healthcare sector to be better prepared for another pandemic. Erik van Raaij, Professor of Purchasing & Supply Management in Healthcare at RSM, states everything had to be set up from scratch when discussing the Corona crisis. The researchers see areas for improvement to better cope with a pandemic in the future. This includes putting crisis structures in place and drawing up protocols for purchasing and distribution. In addition, purchasing must be centralized in times of crisis. The Netherlands must also become less dependent on suppliers from East Asia, for example by setting up Dutch production.
