Issues such as energy transition, a circular economy and digitization extend beyond the ports and offer enormous opportunities for cooperation between the ports in Rotterdam and Antwerp. A driver for better cooperation between the ports in the Delta region could be CO2 storage. The Netherlands has empty gas fields in which this could be done, and is already working on it through the Athos and Porthos project. Belgium, on the other hand, does not have such fields. The Porthos project can be a good beginning of the cooperation between the ports in Rotterdam and Antwerp, according to Albert Veenstra, Professor of Trade and Logistics at RSM and scientific director of TKI Dinalog.
