In the midst of the vibrant and inspirational International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), several alumni from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) were among the special guests at an exclusive screening of Willem Defoe’s recent film Late Fame.
Organised by Erasmus University (EUR) Alumni on 5 February 2026, the screening was bookended by a compelling presentation by RSM Professor Cees van Riel and a Q&A with the film’s director, Kent Jones. Music, drinks and snacks at the end of the evening provided guests with ample opportunity for conversation and connection with other alumni.
All EUR alumni were invited to the special screening at LantarenVenster, and nearly 200 bought tickets. The event was one of many lifelong learning and networking experiences that RSM alumni can take advantage of.
The film Late Fame stars Willem Dafoe as a once-published poet who, after years of anonymity, is rediscovered by a group of young, hopeful artists. Screenwriter Samy Burch adapted it from an unpublished 1895 novella by Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler. Another of Schnitzler’s novellas provided the inspiration for Eyes Wide Shut.
Larissa Wiltenburg from RSM’s Corporate and Alumni Relations says, “A special highlight of the evening was the live Q&A with Kent Jones in New York, giving the audience a unique opportunity to engage directly with the director. The session was brilliantly moderated by Ralph Jones, IFFR Scout for North American Films, and Jennifer Tucker, IFFR Chief Funding and Business Growth.
Another highlight was the engaging keynote by Dr van Riel on reputation and its significance for organisations. By bringing together business insights, conversations with artistic visionaries, and opportunities to meet other alumni, the event was a glittering success.
