Who is eligible?

Any current student at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, is entitled to apply for a grant.

What format will applications take?

Applications must be submitted in the format of a video or narrated Powerpoint presentation, and by filling in the (very concise) form on this website. Videos should be between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 minutes long; Presentations should be between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4 minutes long.

What kinds of things can I use the grant for?

Your project must be aimed to make a positive change, be not-for-profit or a social entreprise, and help you gain real-world business/management/leadership experience. Examples of the kinds of costs you may need funding for could include: web/digital/software, training, physical materials/equipment, travel (in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions).

What if I have to cancel my project because of COVID-19 restrictions?

You are advised to not put forward projects that depend on a pre-COVID-19 lifestyle, i.e. large gatherings of people.

Can we apply as a group?

Yes – so long as everyone in the group is currently enrolled on a Bachelors/Masters or MBA programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

When is the deadline for application?

The application portal will open soon. The deadline for submissions is Thursday 10 December 2020, 22.00 h/10pm CEST.

When will we know if our applications are successful?

The grant-making committee will endeavour to let all successful applicants know before mid-January 2021.

Will I have to report back on how I spent the grant?

Yes. Successful applicants must produce a max. two-page report on the outcomes of their project, and justify their spendings, before their current programme ends. Extracts from the reports may be featured in Alumni Relations communications.

What happens if I don’t spend all my grant money?

Be judicious about how much money you realistically need for your project. Any remainder that cannot be spent will be subsumed back into the Hummingbird Fund.

What happens if I need more money?

Be judicious about how much money you realistically need for your project. Grantees cannot reapply for additional funds in the same grant year. If you are on a multi-year programme, you may re-apply to the Hummingbird Fund for academic year 2021/22 to scale-up your project.
