Introduction

The project explores how everyday experiences and institutional structures in higher education influence students' sense of belonging and future career opportunities. As a Research Assistant, you will support participant recruitment, data collection, and the organization of research activities while gaining valuable hands-on research experience.

Job description

We are looking for a Research Assistant to join the INCLUDE project for 4 hours per week, starting as soon as possible until 31 December 2026. Please note that while your contract will be for 4 hours per week on average, the workload may not be distributed evenly throughout the appointment. We expect a higher workload at the beginning of the academic year, with fewer responsibilities later in the project. 

As a Research Assistant, you will support the research team in the day-to-day execution of the project and contribute to an interdisciplinary collaboration between Erasmus University Rotterdam, TU Delft, and Leiden University.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting participants for focus groups and research sessions.
  • Scheduling and coordinating research activities with participants.
  • Communicating with students and responding to participant inquiries.
  • Assisting with the organization of on-campus game simulations and focus groups.
  • Supporting data collection during research sessions.
  • Maintaining participant records and ensuring compliance with privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Providing general administrative and organizational support to the research team.

Job requirements

We are looking for a motivated and proactive student who:

  • Is currently enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
  • Is extroverted, has very strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is organized, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Has excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Is comfortable interacting with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Has a good command of written and spoken English.
  • Has an interest in academic research, higher education, diversity, or inclusion.
  • Is available to support the project throughout the appointment period.

Previous research experience is an advantage but is not required.

We offer you an internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).

The start date of this position is 20-JUL-2026 and you will be based at [class.26087] in Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). This position is for 0.1 fte - 0.4 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.084 to a maximum of € 3.141 gross per month Scale Student Assistant on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is offered for a period of 1 year and can be converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period if suitability is proven and if continued in the same position, if (financial and/or organizational) circumstances remain the same.
