Dr Thomas Bauwens, assistant professor of collective action for sustainability in the department of Business-Society Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), has recently scored a € 1.5 million ERC grant for his programme: Scaling the Societal Impact of Community Enterprises for Sustainability, better known as SCENSUS.

What it’s all about

On 1 September Dr Thomas Bauwens and his team will kick off the SCENSUS programme at RSM. Having recently joined RSM on 1 February 2023, Thomas brought with him a whopping € 1.5 million in funding in the way of a Starting Grant, awarded by the European Research Council (ERC).

Together with his research team, Thomas aims to introduce a new interdisciplinary theory of the dynamics of community enterprises (CEs) within the wider political economy. He’ll also work to advance the research frontier on collective action and organisation studies, among others. Check out the website for more details.

The man behind the grant

Thomas comes to RSM from Utrecht University’s Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. There, he led research and taught circular economy, energy communities and sustainability transitions. He holds a PhD in Economics and Management from HEC Management School, University of Liege, Belgium, and a MSc in Economics from the Economic School of Louvain, University of Louvain, Belgium.
