Dr Johannes Boegershausen, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), has been recognised as one of the Top 50 Undergraduate Professors for 2023 by Poets & Quants, one of the world’s leading business school publications. Boegershausen has been chosen from a pool of over 650 nominations from 50 undergraduate business schools globally, and represents one of only five winners from a business school outside of the United States.

Poets & Quants Top 50 Undergraduate Professors

The Poets & Quants 50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors list was launched in 2017, with this year marking its sixth edition.  The selection process for choosing the winner encompasses a rigorous evaluation process, including individual evaluations and scoring on research and teaching accomplishments by the Poets & Quants editorial team. Research is weighted at 30 per cent and teaching at 70 per cent, with the average making up the final score. This year’s list includes 33 schools and 24 women as winners.

RSM’s Dean of Faculty, Prof. Daan Stam couldn’t agree more with the selection of Boegershausen. “Johannes is the kind of professor who brings research to life and who makes authentic connections with his students. He’s truly committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and to engaging students so that they feel heard and inspired to make real positive change in their lives and the lives around them.

“We are incredibly proud that he has been recognised for this outside of RSM, and that he has been chosen as one of the Top 50 Undergraduate professors in the world by Poets & Quants.”

The Art of Choosing

Boegershausen's research is focused on marketplace morality, polarized consumer sentiments, and metascience, which is research on the scientific process. He currently teaches courses in marketing. Recently, he developed a new minor for third-year bachelor students called ‘The Art of Choosing – Making Choices that Maximize Happiness’.

Boegershausen expressed his enthusiasm for teaching, noting: "I enjoy seeing students grow in the minor The Art of Choosing. Given the course’s self-reflective nature, it is extremely rewarding to see how 10 weeks together in the classroom can trigger positive change regarding daily habits and long-term career choices."

His work has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, and Journal of Consumer Psychology and has received international recognition, including the 2019 C.W. Park Young Contributor Award from the Society of Consumer Psychology and finalist for the 2022 AMA/Marketing Science Institute/H. Paul Root Award.

Boegershausen holds a PhD. in Marketing from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He has previously held positions at the University of Amsterdam and has taught at various other universities including Maastricht University and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. He is a member of the RSM Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) steering group.

Taking a page from his own playbook, Boegershausen is appreciative of the tremendous support he has received over the years. "I’m grateful for my family, friends, colleagues, co-authors, and mentors. I would not be where I am today without you. A special thank you to all my students over the years who were invaluable in shaping me as a teacher, scholar, and person."
