In September, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) hosted its annual MBA Career Days. This three-day programme includes skills workshops, employer-led sessions and alumni roundtables designed to sharpen students’ interview performance, expand their networks and deepen their understanding of the current Dutch and international labour markets. Participants from RSM’s Full-time MBA (FT MBA) and Executive MBA (EMBA) programmes left better prepared to target and secure their next career move.

High-impact career support

Day one opened with RSM’s Interview Skill Drill. During this internal session, RSM’s Career Development Managers coached students through common questions and pitfalls. This was followed by the No Nonsense Workshop from Navid Eskandar, founder and CEO of Ladderly, a practical career coaching and resume services provider. Eskandar discussed job applications, interviewing and networking. He also stayed for three hours after the workshop to personally review the resumes of attendees and answer their questions.

AI career platform and mock interviews

On the morning of day two, Albert Segura, head of Career Services at CareerOS, an AI career platform, demonstrated the platform and highlighted lifetime access for RSM students. That afternoon, the students took part in interview marathons with visiting companies. These mock interviews enabled the students to test their understanding of themselves and their current careers with experienced hiring managers.

Participating recruiters and hiring managers consistently remarked how impressed they were with the care and impact delivered by RSM’s Career Centre. These recruiters came from the following companies: Adams Multilingual Recruitment, Amazon, Apple, Cognizant, Deloitte, EMEA Recruitment, Heineken, Henkel, ING, McKinsey & Company, Philips, PwC, SWIFT, The Kayode Kolade Consulting, The Magnum Ice Cream Company, and Travix International.

From negotiating offers to alumni roundtables

The final day focused on salary negotiation with Prof. Giuseppe Conti, professor and lecturer of negotiation and influencing, and on alumni-led roundtables. Prof. Conti gave a lecture about new job offers and how to ask for a raise in his workshop: Salary Negotiation. Through explanation and various role-play activities, MBA students learned how to navigate this sensitive topic and how to balance asking for what they want while retaining a good level of professionalism.

Additionally, sixteen alumni returned to the RSM campus to talk with current students about how to navigate the specific challenges of the Dutch labour market. Visiting RSM alumni came from these companies: A.P. Moller - Maersk, Aegon Asset Management, AkzoNobel, ASAHI INTECC Europe, Avery Dennison, CPM, FMO, GSM, Mizuho, NN Group, Priva, Robeco, RWE, Tesla, United Airlines, Van Leer Foundation.

Beyond Career Days

To sustain momentum, the Career Centre is circulating the students’ Curriculum Vitae (CV) book to talent acquisition professionals and to alumni. It also regularly shares recruiter and corporate information with the RSM alumni team and other interested partners to maximise ongoing career conversations for current MBA students.
