There has been steady progress towards SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Recent growth in manufacturing output has been accompanied by a decrease in the carbon intensity of industry. Developing economies are benefitting the most from the value added by medium-high- and high-technology sectors, and the mobile broadband network continues to grow.
Almar Bok, who will graduate from the MSc Global Business and Sustainability programme in 2019, explains how building a resilient society relies on innovation, for example by creating jobs or for increasing the energy efficiency of industry. He stresses the importance of an inclusive process.
Dr Ying Zhang is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at RSM. She explains the balance between development and social and environmental considerations, which comes under her research into economic transitions and entrepreneurship development at a national level as well as corporate social responsibility.
Meiny Prins is CEO of Priva, a leading manufacturer of systems for indoor climate controls. She is also founder of the Sustainable Urban Delta initiative to pioneer green cities full of outstanding examples of technology and sustainability for water, food, energy and knowledge. Here, she explains building sustainable cities of the future. Meiny is a distinguished alumnus of RSM and member of the RSM Advisory Board.
