"We are proud that the RSM case collection has once again been ranked among the top 15 in The Case Centre Impact Index. At a time when AI is reshaping higher education, case-based learning is more valuable than ever: it challenges students to assess evidence critically, navigate ambiguity, make informed judgements, and collaborate on complex real-world problems. We remain committed to deepening our use of cases to develop these essential human skills.,” said Tao Yue, Managing Editor of the RSM Case Development Centre.

Wider recognition

The impact of the teaching cases produced at RSM has also been recognised by the Financial Times. Its latest ranking on 8 October for recognising contributions to learning materials widely used in classrooms has RSM at number 22 globally.  Earlier this year, the CDC at RSM had three of its teaching cases in the lists of top 10 cases from The Case Center. RSM’s cases topped three categories: the top 10 Best-selling Cases 2025, the top 10 Classic Cases 2025, and the top 10 Popular Free Cases 2025.

The whole collection of teaching cases written by the team at RSM’s Case Development Centre can be found on the CDC website.

What’s next?

The CDC team has been busy in 2026, working with RSM faculty members to publish new cases. A few highlights include:

Action: Revolutionizing European Retail Through Disciplined Growth explores the meteoric rise of Action, a Dutch non-food discount retailer, and the strategic dilemmas it faces as it seeks to sustain rapid international expansion amid intensifying competitive and societal pressures. Through in-class discussion, students weigh the durability of Action's competitive advantages at scale, the resilience of its store economics, and the tension between sustainability leadership and its unwavering low-price promise.

Quit playing games is a case that digs into a recent scandal in the Netherlands: NOS sport, the public broadcaster, has faced public scrutiny in recent years over reports of an unsafe workplace culture and concerns about unequal treatment. Students are asked to address what happens when years of tolerated misconduct are exposed at an iconic organisation, and how leadership and HR can translate damning investigation findings into policies that restore trust, safety, and performance.

Stuck in gridlock, the first published case in CDC’s free energy transition case series, addresses the teaching dilemma: how can we teach the complexities of energy transition and grid management in ways that engage students across disciplines – even those without technical backgrounds? The case is set in 2024, shortly after Sam Towns, the program coordinator of charging infrastructure at the Rotterdam Municipality was hit with shocking news: the regional grid operator announced it wanted to turn off all public EV charging stations during peak hours in the afternoon and evening, due to lack of capacity in the electricity grid. Through putting themselves in different stakeholders’ shoes, students analyse the complexities in the energy transition and grid management through the competing interests of multiple stakeholders.
