The list of the 500 best universities in the world, known as the Shanghai Ranking, is published annually by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The annual subject ranking is based on the number of scientific articles in the field, the impact of the publications, international collaboration, the number of publications in top journals in the field, and the number of staff who have won major awards in their field.
RSM came in third place this year in business administration behind strong contenders University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and Texas A&M, both in the United States. The Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), a joint research institute of RSM and the Erasmus School of Economics, was ranked fifth globally in the Shanghai Ranking for its management research. In both categories RSM is the top-ranking European school.
