Every part of the organisation can play a part in making it resilient and for navigating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges – and creating real strategic impact. Two new executive education programmes aimed at professionals at all levels who want to play a role in sustainability and develop those skills have been launched by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). Career pivoters, start-up founders, and entrepreneurs will also find them useful. The two-day Sustainability for Business Impact and the modular programme Leading Sustainable Business Transformation, are the latest in the portfolio of sustainability short programmes from RSM.

Lots of professionals want their work to align with their own values and contribute to meaningful transformation, and at the same time, there’s a demand for transition to circular, low-carbon businesses from investors, regulators and consumers. The growing demand is accompanied by increasing regulation, new and disruptive business models, and the need for new skills and mindsets because sometimes operational improvements alone are not enough.

The responsibility for building resilience

These responsibilities fall across a wide range of roles within an organisation, so both new programmes from RSM Executive Education are suitable for people in a wide range of roles: business owners or start-up founders, product developers, heads of department, social impact leads or specialists, and marketing, finance and HR specialists. RSM’s portfolio of sustainability education programmes includes the completely online MSc in Sustainability Management for professionals with at least three years of experience.

They teach business professionals to use strategic foresight, systems thinking, and responsible leadership so they can map business goals with clarity, and build knowledge, frameworks and practical skills to use in an evolving sustainability landscape. The programmes produce change agents who can lead sustainability initiatives and inspire others within their organisations and beyond – for example by designing circular business models that can help organisations remain flexible and robust in the face of disruption.

In both programmes, participants start their learning with a self-paced online preparation before the classroom sessions. This creates a shared foundation of knowledge and terminology. There are interactive lectures and frameworks from sustainability experts, case studies that bring strategic dilemmas and operational challenges to life, and collaborative exercises that introduce learning from peers and make cross-sectoral insights available to the whole class.

The shorter programme Sustainability for Business Impact is two hours of online preparation followed by two intense days in the classroom. The longer modular programme Leading Sustainable Business Transformation includes the online preparation, the two-day core programme of intensive learning and three half-days of online electives, plus group coaching. Participants in the longer programme can customise their learning and their hands-on project based on their interests and goals.

Sustainability for Business Impact (two days) runs in November 2025

Leading Sustainable Business Transformation (to be completed over 6 months) runs from November 2025
