Prof. Daan Stam and Dr Dirk Deichmann from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will have a role in a pan-European organisation to unite cultural and creative organisations from business, higher education, and research and beyond. The Innovation Culture Europe consortium (ICE) is an organisation of 50 partners from 20 nations including Erasmus University Rotterdam, and has been chosen to be part of a project launched by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) focusing on using innovation to transform Europe’s cultural and creative sectors and industries.

EUR’s participation as a lead partner in EIT’s project ‘Culture & Creativity’ comes as a result of a widespread effort and collaboration between academic staff from several faculties including RSM’s Daan Stam, Professor of Innovation Management, and Associate Professor Dr Dirk Deichmann, both from the department of Technology and Operations Management.

Driver of prosperity
The new EIT Culture & Creativity project will start operations in 2023 with the mission of boosting the competitiveness of cultural and creative sectors and industries, and strengthening their role as drivers of prosperity for Europe. Cultural and creative sectors and industries are key drivers of economic growth and job creation across Europe. They account for 5.5 per cent of the EU's total GDP and 6.2 percent of Europe's workforce. The majority of them – 80 per cent of the 2.9 million companies in this sector – are small and micro enterprises, but represent European diversity as well as its unity.
