As our tenure-track assistant professor IS, your work starts in Fall 2026. You’ll be based in RSM’s Department of Technology & Operations Management (TOM), specifically the Business Information Management (BIM) section, in partnership with the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics (ECDA).
Job description
Your main tasks include the following:
- Conduct independent and collaborative academic research that targets top-tier journals in the domains of information systems, management, and related fields.
- Deliver courses in information systems, business analytics, and digital business at RSM’s BSc IBA, MSc Business Information Management and/or MSc Business Analytics & Management programmes.
- Participate in the ongoing development of the BIM section, the department, and RSM as a whole.
Align with RSM’s mission to be act as a catalyst for positive change in the world.
Job requirements
As our ideal candidate, you are intellectually curious, internationally oriented, ambitious, and a collegial team player.
Your main competences include the following:
- Demonstrate teaching excellence and that you can contribute significantly to the department’s academic programmes.
- A strong familiarity with online education platforms and techniques to inspire successful blended learning.
- Provide critical yet constructive feedback.
- Can teach in English. You have an advantage when you can also teach in Dutch.
- Appreciate rigorous academic research that addresses real-world challenges.
Additionally, you have the following:
- A PhD in fields such as Information Systems, Management and Organisation, Economics, Computer Science, or Statistics.
- A proven track record or strong potential for conducting high-impact research and publishing your work in top-tier journals (see ERIM journals list).
- An interest in a broad range of Information Systems research topics and methodologies.
- Research interests that synergise with the section and the department’s current focus, particularly in AI, business analytics, digital business, online platforms, human-computer interaction, digital innovation, and enterprise architecture.
- C1 English skills, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Employment conditions and benefits
We offer you an internationally oriented and varied position in an enthusiastic team, with excellent employment conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
You start your new role on in Fall 2026. The salary depends on your knowledge and experience. For a full-time appointment (38 hours), your salary amounts to between €4,728 and €6,433 gross per month (Scale 11), in accordance with the CAO-NU.
Your work location is Campus Woudestein in Rotterdam at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

Department
The Business Information Management (BIM) section at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has a large, young, and international faculty consists of 15 full-time, research-active tenure-track members and 5 full-time and part-time lecturers. These academics have been educated at prestigious institutions across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Our section runs a US-style PhD programme that currently includes 14 PhD candidates. Over the past five years, our graduates have secured faculty positions at top business schools, such as George Washington University, Copenhagen Business School, IE Business School, Northwestern University, and MIT Center for Information Systems Research.
Our faculty is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and consistently publishes in top-tier journals. These include but are not limited to Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Management Science, as well as journals in related disciplines such as Marketing Science, Production and Operations Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management.
