A group of 10 SDG student ambassadors from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) travelled to KU Leuven’s campus in Brussels, Belgium, for a full day of activities to explore sustainability in business and in culture in December 2023.

The RSM SDG ambassadors engaged with bachelor students from KU Leuven in a sustainable management course taught by Prof. Ingrid Molderez. After the course, the rest of the day was full of creativity and collaboration as the students delved into the world of Vincent Van Gogh and its connection to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Illustrating the SDGs

“Art and the humanities can affect social perceptions and values as a powerful tool for introducing topics, influencing perspectives and promoting environmental awareness,” says Liva Liepa from RSM’s Positive Change team. During a ‘painting speed dating’ session, the students explained how their chosen Van Gogh painting serves as an inspiration for their SDG. They worked in groups, creating extensions of existing Van Gogh paintings to illustrate their SDGs.

The RSM students also joined an SDG city walk guided by KU Leuven students, exploring sites in Brussels relevant to the SDGs.

RSM’s Positive Change team and the RSM SDG ambassadors will organise an inspiring exchange day for KU Leuven students in Rotterdam in March.
