Introduction

Then we invite you to apply for one of our newest faculty vacancies: tenure track Assistant Professor in the department of Finance at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). This job starts on 1 September 2026.

When you join our team, you begin to cooperate with a dynamic and international department of dedicated educators and ambitious academics. Together you engage in top quality research and host specialised conferences and seminars.

In RSM’s department of Finance, you conduct world-class research in all areas of finance. As a team, we are responsible for the successful MSc programme in Finance and Investments, ranked by the Financial Times. Our department also contributes to RSM’s undergraduate, MBA and PhD programmes and to the MSc in Business Analytics & Management.

As a member of the Finance faculty, you regularly publish in the top journals in the field, such as Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Finance, Management Science and Journal of Monetary Economics. You also cooperate with the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) via the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), for example, by presenting a joint seminar series. Together we regularly host impactful events, such as the Conferences on Professional Asset Management and the Liquidity Conferences. Additionally, you focus on research and education and on bringing out the positive change that enables people and organisations to thrive.

The RSM department of Finance offers finance programmes and courses for bachelor, master and executive students that address topics at the cutting edge of the field of finance. These include: sustainable finance and climate risk, corporate finance, asset management, credit risk, financial innovation, FinTech, entrepreneurial finance, and corporate governance.

Job description

Your job includes the following:

  • Conduct high-quality research to be submitted to top journals in the field, such as Management Science, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, JFQA, and Review of Finance.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars and conferences, which are supported by a personal research budget.
  • Build an international network and gain visibility in the field.
  • Develop your teaching skills by obtaining a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) during the first three years of your tenure track. 
  • Engage in teaching innovation, and teach courses in our bachelor and master programmes.
  • Teach executive education classes (MBA, Executive MBA, open and custom programmes) in the second half of the tenure track, when applicable.
  • Contribute to a pleasant atmosphere in the department and set up new initiatives.
  • Engage with RSM’s mission to be a force for positive change in the world.

Job requirements

We’re interested in you when you:

  • Possess a PhD in finance, or if you are in the final year of your PhD study.
  • Can demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
  • Have a good command of the English language. 
  • A strong commitment to high-quality research, and evidence that you can conduct impactful work and publish in top finance journals.
  • The ability to contribute to the department’s teaching activities at the level of bachelor, master and, when applicable, MBA.

The starting date of this position is 1 September 2026 and you will be based at our Woudestein campus at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). This position is for 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge, and ranges from a minimum of € 4,728 to a maximum of € 7,297 gross per month, on a fulltime basis (38 hours) at scale 11 or 12 and in accordance with the CAO-NU.

Additional information

A tenure track assistant professor position with a promotion decision in the seventh year (to tenured associate professor) based on individual performance. This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE) with a contract for 38 hours per week. We offer you a hybrid combination of online and on-campus working hours.

Additionally, we offer excellent training and career development opportunities. You collaborate closely with experienced faculty members to develop and deliver courses at the BSc and MSc levels. RSM has a dedicated Learning Innovation Team (LIT), which supports faculty members in the improvement and innovation of their courses and programmes. 

RSM’s Department of Finance has access to excellent facilities, including most major databases (WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eikon, Bloomberg, I/B/E/S, Thomson One Banker, TAQ, etc.) and a modern building on Erasmus University’s campus in Rotterdam. Rotterdam is a pleasant and lively harbour city in the west of the Netherlands with 625,000 inhabitants. It provides attractive living conditions for international faculty.
