Housing information for full-time RSM students coming to Rotterdam

Please note that the Xior rooms are fully booked since May 26th, 2020.

Although a complete and useful overview of housing information for International Students can be found on on the housing pages of the Erasmus University, the information below especially applies to RSM’s first year BScIBA and MSc students coming from abroad.

As in many major European cities, the demand for reasonably priced housing in Rotterdam is very high. Therefore, make it your number one priority and start searching immediately after being conditionally or unconditionally admitted to our BScIBA or one of the MSc programmes. As campus housing is limited, you may have to look for a room on the private market or seek other alternatives.

  • The ‘Short Stay Accommodations’ of RSM is run by the housing corporation SSH Student Housing (SSH), specialized in letting furnished accommodation.
For our first year BScIBA and MSc students coming from abroad, we reserve a range of furnished accommodations. Students can only apply for ‘Short Stay Accommodations’ for the first 12 months of their study (it is not possible to rent a room for less than 12 months. only Exchange students are qualified for a shorter period, please contact your International Office). After 12 months you have to find accommodation by yourself. The SSH Accommodation is not available for partners or family of the student.

SSH will handle the whole process – from making a room reservation to payments. For more information about the Terms and Conditions, the Rental Guide and the FAQ’s, please visit the site www.sshxl.nl/en. Any questions can be addressed to: Rotterdam@sshxl.nl

Available SSH housing/accommodation for BScIBA & MSc students

IMPORTANT INFORMATION (April 2020): we have hundreds of registrations now while SSH housing is limited. RSM only has 136 rooms available to be divided amoung MSc and BSc students from EU countries and MSc and BSc students from NON EU countries. So it could be that your registration can not be approved because there are no sufficient rooms available, even when you have registered on April 7th. We know from last year that we had 300 registrations in one day. So we kindly ask you to wait patiently for your approval. If we cannot approve your registration please note that we offer more housing possibilities like Xior example. Registration opens on May 11th.

The SSH has four dorms you can choose from: one on-campus (Hatta Building) and three off-campus, only 15 minutes walking from the university (D'Blaauwe Molen, Overhoningen and Erasmus International House). All rooms/apartments are fully fitted and furnished (not self-contained) and located at Struisenburgdwarsstraat in the district of Kralingen, This district offers everything that a student needs: the Erasmus University, little shops and typical student pubs are around the corner. The centre of Rotterdam and the Kralingse Bos are just a stone’s throw away. In most cases you have communal cooking facilities and sanitary fitting. Accommodations can not be visited in advance, but descriptions of the different buildings are available on the SSH website. Please not that rental prices are re-indexed every year.

    Staying longer than 1 year?

For students staying in the Netherlands for at least 3 years (BScIBA students), Stadswonen Rotterdam lets over 6,000 good-quality, affordable rooms, studios and flats to students and people starting out on the Rotterdam’s housing market. The (unfurnished) rooms they offer are appointed to a tenant based on the longest registration period. As soon as you’ve registered, you will start building up your registration period (inschrijfduur). And the longer you are registered with Stadswonen, the better your chances are of quickly finding a room, studio or flat. At this moment the registration period to make change of finding a room is average 8 months. You can register as early as 17, so don’t wait too long!

When am I eligible to register for a room at the SSH ?
You can register for a room once you have been conditionally or unconditionally admitted to the first year BScIBA programme or one of the MSc programmes.

    Registering : when and how?

Tuesday 7 April 2020, 12.00 PM CET - you can register at SHH* (Earlier registrations won't be approved)
Onwards Tuesday 14 April 2020, 12.00 PM CET - you can, if approved by the RSM, reserve a room

Rooms will be online from the 7th of April, but cannot be reserved. You can check the rooms we offer and reserve one onwards the 14th of April if the RSM/ Erasmus University approves you.

How? Log in to My SSH (the online reservation programme) to reserve a room within 7 days*:
    City:                                          Rotterdam
Your educational institution:  Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)
Type of Resident:                     EUR Full Year Student (12 months)
    Select and reserve a room
    * If you have not selected a room within 7 days, your application will be set automatically to “not approved”. After this period you can no longer reserve accommodation via SSH (to give other students also a fair chance to apply for accommodation).

After your room reservation SSH will send you a confirmation email and will request you to make a down payment within 24 hours of booking the accommodation. The down payment is non-refundable and consists of the reservation fee and a rent payment.

IMPORTANT: What if my registration with SSH is not approved?
If your registration is not approved, this means that no more rooms are available for your programme. Even though you may still see rooms available on the SSH website, we will not be able to approve your registration. The remaining available rooms are meant for other programmes/faculties at the RSM/ Erasmus University.  Although The SSH does not have a waiting list, it could be that rooms become available after the 1st of July.
