Why did you choose this MSc?
"While earning my double degree bachelor in international management in France, I was highly interested in exploring strategic issues that allowed me to have a holistic view on an organisation instead of only looking at various isolated areas. Deepening my knowledge on strategy at RSM, whose strategic management department is well-known in Europe for its research and expertise in strategic decisions, was therefore the perfect fit. The programme also seemed to be a great stepping stone towards a career in management consulting – the career path I was dreaming about."
How would you describe the programme and RSM?
"The Master in Strategic Management is a good starting point for any management position, especially for a career in consulting. Even though we were a big, international cohort, the cohesion was extremely high and it felt like a family. Throughout the studies, I highly appreciated the mixture of lectures and workshops combined with individual assignment as well as a lot of teamwork. Being able to pick out of a wide range of electives enabled me to tailor the programme to my wishes and what would most benefit my desired career path."
What was the biggest challenge in this master?
"The most challenging, but also the most rewarding, was the thesis trajectory. Although the bachelor thesis prepared me with the tools to successfully do my research and write a good thesis, the master thesis had adopted a bigger dimension, contributing simultaneously to my academic knowledge and personal development. Not only was I coached by highly reputed professors, I was also able to collaborate with managers of ING’s innovation studio that supports promising FinTech startups in creating disruptive business models. Ultimately, the strength of my completed thesis made me forget of all the sleepless nights when I was mulling over performing the right analyses or formulating my findings."
What made the greatest impression?
“Starting my master at RSM, I had only a vague idea of the career path I wanted to take after graduation. Overwhelmed by the multitude of options that awaited me after the programme, I reached out to RSM alumni with different backgrounds and insights into multiple companies. Talking to people who had previously been in the same situation was an encouraging experience. They have all become role models, a wonderful inspiration and source of encouragement. I was especially surprised on how open and available each person was to support me in my orientation process. This proved to me that a great team spirit lives at RSM, which goes beyond the formal studies."
How did your studies at RSM shape your career?
"Studying at RSM presented the perfect opportunities of shaping myself and my skillset towards acquiring the job I have always aspired to have. Further, the mission of RSM to be a force for positive change inspires me to actively be such a force through my actions, and to live it in my daily work and private life."
What are your future plans?
"I just signed a contract at McKinsey to be a general consultant. I look forward to applying the knowledge I have gained during my studies as a consultant, and to grow beyond my limits. In the long run, I am considering obtaining a PhD to conquer another academic challenge. Also, I want to travel a lot as this master enriched my life with good friends all over the world with whom I will do my best to stay in contact with."
