You will need a budget each year to cover your rent, living expenses, your study materials and, if applicable, residence permit and health insurance. This is in addition to paying your tuition fee. How much money you will actually need also depends on your life style. The costs for housing, for example, may differ considerably. Also, if you plan to travel during your stay, you will obviously need more money. For a reasonable standard of living in the Netherlands, you should have an income of approximately €950 per month or €11,400 per year (excluding the tuition fee). Further information about the costs of living in the Netherlands and related subjects can be found on this website.
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers various types of scholarships for Chinese passport holders who want to study abroad. See for more information and application criteria the CSC website.
If you have accepted your offer for RSM but decide to start your studies elsewhere, make sure to cancel your registration for the IBA programme in Studielink so that your place can be given to a candidate on the waiting list. Also, notify the RSM Admissions Office via the contact form so that we can take you off the student list.
Yes, current and former RSM students pursuing a master programme at RSM are required to follow the same application procedure as external students.
No, you are not allowed to apply for more than one MSc programme at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). The RSM admissions office will always try to make you an alternative offer of admission for another MSc programme at RSM if your admission into the programme you applied for is rejected.
Note: Although you can't apply for multiple programmes at RSM, it is always allowed to apply for MSc programmes at other faculties from the Erasmus University Rotterdam (like the Erasmus School of Economics for example) next to your RSM application.
You must meet the language requirements for the IM/CEMS programme by the 31 January application deadline.
When planning a test date for eventual language tests, please keep in mind that test centers can get quite busy and do not always have openings. We therefore strongly advise you to register for a test date well in advance and keep in mind that it can take weeks to get the results back.
Yes, you can already apply before you recieve your diploma. Due to the early application deadline, RSM normally uses the grades of the penultimate year (year before your final year) for the evaluation. This allows us to evaluate each applicant based on a full year of grades.
As you may have received fewer grades than normal due to the the COVID-19 pandemic, for the 2022 admission RSM will use the grades of your penultimate year and the grades obtained in the last year until December/January. Please note that it is not possible to submit grades after the 31 January deadline.
It is possible to defer your offer of admission until the next academic year for all MSc and pre-master programmes with the exception of the International Management/CEMS.
If you have already accepted or declined your offer, but due to unforeseen circumstances want to defer your offer, please contact the RSM admissions office.
Yes, you need to include the grades from all years of your bachelor programme.
Generall speaking RSM does not accepted the TOEFL ITP for admission to our MSc programmes. The reason for this is that this type of exam does not include a verbal part.
RSM does however temporarily accept the TOEFL ITP® Plus for China. Students who have taken this test, will be required to take a additional verbal test via the Erasmus University Language & Training Center.
Yes, you can send us your application first and complete your application package later with proof of your English proficiency. The results must be submitted before the application deadline or before the programme has reached maximum capacity (whichever occurs first)! For the MSc International Management/CEMS programme the results must be submitted by the application deadline of 31 January.
If you submit your application without the proof, you will be asked to indicate when you will complete this step (for example when you plan to take your English test).
All relevant information such as your proof of English proficiency and your GMAT results (if applicable) must be available to RSM by the application deadline, or before the programme has reached maximum capacity (whichever occurs first). When scheduling a test date keep in mind that it can take several weeks to receive your test score. Plan ahead!
For the MSc International Management/CEMS programme the results must be submitted by the application deadline of 31 January.
If you submit your application first with only your academic transcripts, the RSM Admissions Office can already start evaluating your application and let you know wether you meet the academic requirements. However during the busy period (January - May) the evaluation times are longer, so keep this in mind when planning your tests.
You can only attend the annual Master graduation ceremony in the year that you receive your MSc diploma.

Grade point averages can be expressed differently in other education systems. Indications of acceptable GPA's from universities outside The Netherlands can be found below. As a rule of thumb, if you are considered to have an above average GPA in your home country, it is likely that RSM will consider your GPA to be sufficient.
Please provide an academic transcript with a diploma supplement explaining your countries grading system in your application package if possible.

Students with a bachelor degree from a Dutch university of Higher Professional Education (Dutch University of Applied Science or HBO) interested in pursuing a Master of Science degree at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) are required to first complete a pre-master year.
The RSM pre-master year aims to deepen your theoretical knowledge and build on the practical oriented knowledge you have required during your bachelor programme. During the pre-master you will enhance your academic skills and participate in courses preparing you for the master programme you choose to follow after the pre-master year.
Direct admission to the MSc programmes of RSM is possible after the successful completion of a premaster from another accredited Dutch higher education institution as long as the premaster is deemed to be comparable to RSM’s premaster. Acceptance of a non-RSM premaster will be determined by the RSM admissions office on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed. Applicants who wish to be admitted to RSM with a non-RSM premaster need to have had an unrounded GPA of at least a 7.5 for their HBO bachelor.
The Language & Training Centre of Erasmus University Rotterdam (LTC) offers language courses and language (intake) tests for most (but not all CEMS languages) that are accepted as proof of language proficiency upon entry.
No, RSM does not currently offer MSc programmes online. This option may become available in the future.
The sooner your conversion has been processed, the earlier you can start asking the refund of your tuition fee and receive your MSc diploma!
GPA stands for Grade Point Average. This average is based on the weighted average of all grades from your bachelor programme. If you have also completed a master's degree, these grades can be added to your bachelor grades and used in the calculation of your GPA when evaluating your application. RSM will not accept grades converted from other education systems as part of the calculation.
You will need to receive your diploma, after it has been issued. You can pick up the diploma at the Exam Administration, or in some occasions receive it through registered post at your own expense. Please be aware of the fact that your diploma will be issued only once, so sending it by mail is at your own risk.
You can contact us in several ways, as listed on our contact pages.
The admission requirements differ per MSc programme. Please read the Admission & Application pages on the RSM website for more details.
