Are all four parts of the GMAT important?

The GMAT exam consists of 4 parts: quantitative, verbal, analytical writing assessment and integrated reasoning. RSM does not require you to complete the analytical writing assessment nor the integrated reasoning part as they do not contribute to your overall score.

Please note that GMAT scores older than 2 years are no longer considered valid by RSM. The minimum required score is 600. Scores under 600 will not be considered. The results of your GMAT exam must arrive at the RSM admissions office no later than the application deadline for the programme you are applied for (15 May) and 31 January for IM/CEMS- unless the programme fills earlier).

How long will it take for my GMAT score to be sent to Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University after I have taken the test?

Academic institutions generally receive GMAT scores within 20 days after the test is taken. We recommend that you plan to take the GMAT exam at least one month prior to the application deadline to ensure that your exam results are available to the admissions office on time. Taking the exam well in advance of the application deadline will also allow you to retake the exam if your initial score is insufficient.

When submitting your application form please include your (un)official GMAT score report as it can be used in the initial evaluation of your application. You will get your unofficial GMAT score right after you have taken the exam. GMAT exam results can be verified by the admissions office online if you have given Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University permission to access your score. Please do so!

Course manual

The course manual (syllabus) is an all-encompassing document about a specific course that provides students (and student advisers, programme management, etc.) with a detailed description of course contents, how courses are assessed, validity of grades, and information about group and workshop registration, team registration, etc. Course coordinators are asked to submit their concept course manual to programme management roughly 2 months before the start of the trimester. This allows programme management time to carefully review the document, which is then submitted to the Examination Board for a final check. The Examination Board primarily focuses on the elements concerning assessment and grading in order to ensure that everything is in line with the official Examination Regulations.

Once all of the course manuals per bachelor year and per trimester have been collected, approved, and considered definitive then the combined texts are made available to students via the BA and IBA Current Students pages.

Copyright on teaching materials

The general rule in Dutch Copyright Law (called Auteurswet) and the CAO-NU is that the copyright on teaching materials (like examination questions, workbooks and practice cases) is vested in the employer in whose service the work is realised. Teaching materials produced during working hours by staff whose task it is to produce teaching materials are the property of the employer (EUR).

This implies that teaching materials produced by someone who is leaving the employment have to be transferred to the department. Naturally, it can be agreed with the director of the department that the employee is allowed to continue to use the teaching materials after his or her departure.

Copyrights on lectures

A lecture is also a copyrighted work. The lecturer who gives the lecture may decide whether his lecture may be filmed, this applies also to an audio recording. Permission should always be asked from the lecturer before a lecture can be filmed or recorded.

If the lecturer gives permission to film a lecture, the film is only for personal use and distribution of the film is prohibited. Based on the privacy laws, fellow students may not be filmed while recording a lecture.

The lecturer can also indicate in advance whether and to what extent recordings are permitted. For this purpose the lecturer can use the following model:

" Making video recordings and / or sound recordings for personal use of this lecture series is / is not allowed. See section 9.7 of the Student Charter of the EUR. "

This text can be pronounced or shown for example on the first slide of a presentation.

Copyrights on theses

The copyright on bachelor or master theses is vested in the student who has written the thesis.

Although the thesis supervisor has given instructions and suggestions for improvement or has made corrections, this does not make the thesis partly the intellectual property of the thesis supervisor. Specifically, the learning situation implies that students have to make independent educational efforts, which can be assessed as such by the Examination Board or an examiner.

Therefore the thesis supervisor cannot have too much influence on such a thesis, in any case not so much that the copyright would (also) be transferred to him or her. The copyright is therefore vested in the student.

As authors of their theses, students can themselves decide whether or not to publish and reproduce their work and are themselves responsible for the content and what they do with it. The university’s responsibility lies in supervision and assessment whether the work fulfils the set requirements.

Examples:

A graph or a newspaper article or an amusing picture (possibly taken from the Internet) that is included in a PowerPoint presentation that the students can watch in the ELE qualifies as a short reproduction and needs to be registered. Formulas, conversely, need not be registered.
Situations involving a piece written by the lecturer that has been published in a journal, with the copyrights being transferred to the publishing house that owns the journal, qualify as reproduction and have to be registered. Unpublished works by the lecturer may be used freely, though when the work is published copyrights will have to be reserved for educational purposes, or else it will have to be registered, as above.

Fraud & plagiarism

Teaching staff members who have suspicions that one of their students has committed plagiarism should inform the Examination Board (via ec@rsm.nl ). More information pertaining to this topic can be found via the Examination Board's 'Teaching Net' portal: https://intranet.eur.nl/group/rsm/fraud

If a student has been suspected of doing some kind of fraudulent activity, or if a student is caught with his/her telephone either on, or not stowed away during an examination then this will be noted on the student's examination papers. There will be a large FR stamp on the exam when you receive it. The FR stamped exams are directly reported to the Examination Board by the department of Exam Administration (EA). The Examination Board reviews the various cases and also checks to see if students are repeat offenders.

Coordinators are asked to grade all exams, including those marked with FR, and to list the FR students' grades on a 3rd sheet ('tabblad' in Dutch) on the official .xml grade file from the EA. If the student was registered for the exam, note 'FR' next to the students name in the first sheet, and list the student's number and the grade that the student received in the 3rd sheet. If the student wasn't registered for the exam, add the student number to the 2nd excel sheet (for 'ER', or own risk students), and then note 'FR' as the grade. The student's real grade should be listed on the 3rd sheet, together with any other 'FR' grades.

This will ensure that the coordinator can turn in all final grades at the same time (instead of separate files after the fact) and it will also ensure that the EA has the grade on record in the event that the student only receives a warning so that they can process the grade in Osiris.

Once the Examination Board makes its decision regarding an 'FR' case, the student will receive an email with this decision and the coordinator in question and the department of Exam Administration will receive a 'cc' to the message. The cc to the EA provides them notice that they can process the grade that the coordinator listed in the third excel sheet in the xml grade file.

What is Studielink and how does it work?

Studielink is a national web-based system in the Netherlands used for the enrolment of students. Studielink is used for student registration, payment of tuition fees and changing your correspondence address. It is the first step of the application process for RSM and most other higher education institutions in the Netherlands.

Studielink can be confusing at times, and to help you with the registration we have created a Studielink instruction manual.

After you have registered in Studielink, you will receive a link to the Online Application Form (OLAF) where you can complete your application. Please note that creating an account in Studielink only does not mean that you have applied for admission.

EEA students - Government Grants

If you are in full-time higher education in the Netherlands, you may be eligible for a student grant. You must satisfy the following three requirements:

Age: you must be under the age of 30 when you become entitled to a student grant
Nationality: you must be a Dutch national or have the same rights. You can check this with the nationality chart.
Education: you must be in full-time or dual education

The basic government grant includes:

A monthly allowance The Dutch government stipulates the student grant levels each year and the amounts are regularly updated on the DUO website.
A student travel card
An interest-bearing loan
A supplementary grant (your eligibility to receive this supplement depends on the income of your parents/guardian).

Grades of the final year and/or the national exams will be used to calculate your average grade.

Additional requirements

You must include the RSM diploma statement in your application. This statement must be filled in by your school counselor or school representative. If you have already graduated at the time of applying, the statement is not required.

In the application, you must submit official grade lists signed by your mentor or school representative. Screenshots or self-made Word/Excel documents with your grades will not be accepted. Ensure that RSM can clearly understand how the grades were determined if your school uses a different grading system or calculations.

Language of instruction (teaching and examinations)

The programme language – teaching and examinations – of the BScBA programme and the Dutch taught premaster programme is Dutch. Derogations from this rule is permitted only in case of a guest lecture by a foreigner, but even then the examination should be in Dutch. Yet prescribed literature may be in English if inevitable.

For the IBA programme and the English Premaster Programme, the language of instruction - teaching and examinations – is English.

Brazil - Orange Tulip Scholarship programme (OTS)

For the academic year 2017-2018, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will grant two to three partial scholarships, depending on the quality of the applicants, through the Orange Tulip Scholarship Programme (OTS) of NESO- Brazil, for all MSc programmes excluding the MSc International Management/CEMS programme and the MSc Finance & Investments – Advanced programme. The value of the partial scholarship is between 30-70% of the tuition fee for non-EEA students.

To apply for the Orange Tulip Scholarship, Brazilian students must:

1. Have an outstanding academic record.

2. Submit their application for the OTS to NESO-Brazil. The procedure for this can be found through the NESO-Brazil website

3. Submit their application for one of the RSM Master programmes (excluding MScIM/CEMS and MScFI Advanced) before 1 March 2017. In order to be considered for an OTS scholarship, applicants need to meet all MSc. admission requirements and be in the possession of an unconditional offer letter. This scholarship is meant for prospective students only, thus, this scholarship is NOT meant for currently enrolled RSM and EUR students. The scholarship is granted for the first 12 months of the MSc programme. If you apply for the MScBA in Master in Management programme, the regular tuition fee for non-EEA Master students apply for the remaining months of the programme. Students should be aware that they will need to have sufficient means to cover the study costs of those remaining months.

By accepting this scholarship you agree to assist the RSM Recruitment and Admissions Office as an Ambassador with promotional and support activities for approximately 8 hours per month during the academic year.

Please note that we can only take a scholarship application into consideration if it is complete and meets all of the requirements, including a scholarship application letter and minimum GMAT test score of 600.
