RSM’s primary focus is on developing business leaders with international careers who can become a force for positive change by carrying their innovative mindset into a sustainable future. Our first-class portfolio of bachelor, master, MBA, PhD and executive programmes encourage people to become critical, creative, caring and collaborative thinkers and doers. The official examination schedule is typically finalized in June or July and cannot be changed during the course of the academic year.
At least two versions of the written examination should be dropped off to the department of examination administration at least 2 weeks before the date of the examination. A standard format for the cover page is available at the start of each academic year and should be filled in and turned in to the Exam Administration together with the examination to be copied. In the event that an examination is not turned in to Exam Administration on time (and no other agreements were made with the Exam Administration in terms of an extended deadline) then the course instructor will need to have the examination copied his or herself.
At least one teaching staff member is expected to be present (or at least easily accessible via phone) during the examination itself.
Non-EEA nationals who have earned a diploma from a higher education institute in the Netherlands can apply for a special residence permit called the "zoekjaar" or orientation year after completing their studies. The 'Orientation Year for Graduates Seeking Employment' is a residence permit aimed at retaining foreign talent for the Dutch labour market. During this orientation year you are free to work without a work permit. Participants who find a job during this period can change their orientation year into a residence permit for Highly Skilled Migrants under more favourable terms. Rotterdam school of Management, Erasmus University offers scholarships for students from non-EEA countries who are not entitled to pay the EEA tuition fee, provided their grades are considered ‘excellent’. The scholarship will be provided in the form of a waiver from the non-EEA tuition fee. This scholarship is meant for prospective students only (excluding HBO pre-master students) and awarded for the first year only. Click here for more details.
If an unforeseen situation occurs shortly after the selection, the International Office will do its utmost to find you another exchange destination, unless the International Office is informed in time (the latest: July 1).
If an alternative destination is not possible, the students can complete his/her elective by doing a core course of another Master programme in autumn.
If you have completed your entire master programme prior to exchange you DO NEED postponement of active degree granting to maintain your student status (this option will be asked for in your conversion proposal form and automatically dealt with by the International Office in cooperation with the Examination Board).
More information on active degree granting can be found here: https://www.rsm.nl/master/current-students/master/postponement-of-issuing-your-degree/
You can find the presentation here.
A student may pass the final exam with a 4.5 or higher for one examination part of the course year B1, provided that all components of course year B1 were passed, with the exception of the component with the 4.5 or higher, and this insufficient grade is compensated for by at least one rounded 7 or higher for another component of B1.
In addition, a student may pass the final exam with compensation of one failed course under the following conditions:
Procedure: The B1 compensation rule will automatically be processed in Osiris. The B2/3 compensation rule will only be applied by the Examination Board upon student’s request. You can submit your request for compensation as of Thursday 15th June 2023 via Osiris Case in Osiris Student. The deadline for submitting your request is Monday 14th August 2023 23.59h. Your GPA will be calculated by the Student Administration, Department Study Progress and Diploma, whereafter the Examination Board will send you the final decision.
Please note, compensation requests for B2/3 will only be processed when all grades of B2/3 (including retakes) have been registered in Osiris.
Online evaluation questionnaires are sent out to students via the online evaluation system EvaSys for both the course evaluation and the examination evaluation. Programme management will send the course coordinator a draft of the questionnaire to be used for the online evaluations roughly 3 weeks before the end of the trimester. Programme management uses a standard set of questions per topic for these evaluations, in accordance with our uniform guidelines for all courses in both the BSc IBA and BSc BA programme. Some minor adjustments and/or additions however, can be implemented at the coordinator’s request. The standard evaluation questions can be found via the Resources page.
The evaluation of the lectures is sent out after the last plenary lecture (or the week before, depending on the exam date), and asks students to evaluate the course content, literature, teaching methods, and coordination. The second evaluation is sent out directly after each course’s midterm exam and final exam with questions over the composition of the exam, difficulty level, etc. This 2nd evaluation will only be sent out when applicable (thus not for courses without an exam, such as the Bachelor Thesis). The assistant programme manager will inform the coordinator about the proposed opening and closing dates for the online evaluations, and will also enquire as to which (additional) teaching staff members should receive the evaluation results.
Viewing your evaluations
The course coordinator will receive the evaluation results from Programme management by e-mail after the closing date of the evaluations.
No, the IBA programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University is a full-time Bachelor programme.
Although a complete and useful overview of housing information can be found on the housing pages of the Erasmus University, this information especially applies to RSM’s first year students coming from abroad.
Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) is one of the schools or faculties that make up the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). The Erasmus University Rotterdam also has schools in economics, medicine, health policy, social sciences, philosophy, history/culture/communication and law.
Rotterdam School of Management and the Erasmus University Rotterdam should not be confused with the neighbouring 'Rotterdam Business School'. Rotterdam Business School is not a research university but a university of applied sciences.
If you are a citizen from a non-EEA country it is highly unlikely that you will qualify for a government grant. There are exceptions however for people with specific circumstances. To be sure, contact the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO).
Erasmus University runs a pick-up service on several dates in August with buddies welcoming you at Schiphol Airport and travelling with you to Rotterdam. They will also assist you with where to get your key, or finding your way to a hostel. Information about the pick-up service can be found here.
Foreign students who would like to take paid work alongside their studies are allowed to do so. However, the possible lack of knowledge of the Dutch language might make it difficult for you to find a job. Students can search for part-time jobs through temporary job agencies, RSM's Career Centre, advertisements in newspapers, or the Internet. Depending on your nationality you can only do so for a limited amount of hours per week, and only if the employer has applied for a work permit for you.
EU/EEA countries
Students from most of the EU and EEA countries can work in the Netherlands without restriction. Your employer does not need to apply for a work permit and you are allowed to work as many hours as you want and earn money alongside your studies or internship activities without a work permit.
Non-EU/EEA countries
If you are a student from outside the EU/EEA there are some restrictions if you want to work alongside your studies. You can find more information in this flyer, the Nuffic Fact Sheet Foreign Students and Part-time Jobs as well as on the Nuffic website.
You can find information on temporary housing here.
