You can only accept or decline your offer. Due to the numerus fixus regulations it’s not possible to defer the offer.

If you are uncertain about accepting your offer (for instance, you are considering to study elsewhere) we recommend you to accept the offer for RSM. You can give back your offer later if you decide not to start your studies at RSM. However, once you have declined your offer, this cannot be reversed. 

Yes, RSM can check your TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge results online. However, the RSM Admissions Office can only do this if you upload a copy of your score report in your application:

TOEFL scores can be verified online. Therefore you should request the tests center to send your score report to RSM. The institutional code of RSM is 0798 and for Erasmus University 7199 (you can use either). Scores are verifiable for 2 years.

IELTS scores are verified online using the TRF code marked on the score report. Scores are verifiable for 5 years.

Cambridge results taken after 2005 can be verified online.

Note: it is sufficient to upload your score report and follow the instructions mentioned above. It is not needed for TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge to send us your English certificate by postal mail. 

To accommodate you in this particular situation, you will be able to take the same exam online on your own device. In that case, the surveillance will be done via Online Proctoring. You can submit a request for this via OSIRIS Case as from 5 working days prior to the exam date. Submit this request as soon as you know that you are not allowed to come to campus, but at least one working day before the exam. This is important because the exam must be prepared online for you.

The following examples illustrate the implication of ‘at least one working day before the exam’:

1. A Tuesday to Friday exam means that the OP request in Osiris must be made no later than 17.00 the day before.
2. A Monday exam means that the OP request in Osiris must be made before 17.00 on Friday.

If you submit your request later, we will try to respond as soon as possible but we cannot guarantee that this is possible before the start of your exam.

If you have a personal contact with a professor, you may contact them directly to see whether they are interested in your project and/or acting as a supervisor for your project. If you don’t have a connection yet it is best to start by looking at our research are descriptions (link “Open PhD projects”) and connect your research idea to one of the themes described there in your application. We will then (try to) match you with interested faculty members, during the application period.

No, this is not mandatory. It is mandatory to submit a sample of academic writing, which can be a research proposal, but could also be a thesis excerpt or a paper.

However, it increases your chances of acceptance.

Have a look at our research areas (link “Open PhD projects”) and try to connect your idea to the themes described there. Have a look at the (academic) literature regarding these themes and topics: To what extent is your question already answered? To what extent is it new, and adds to the body of knowledge that is already there? Have similar problems been researched in the literature – and how have researchers approached them? Would that approach also work for your question?

The research proposal that you submit in your application (if any) will serve as a first point of departure with your potential supervisors, and will develop over the first year in the programme into a proper academic research proposal.
